Doc, you have such a massive collection of photos! Where to hell do you get them all from? LOL
You will need to ask him, but I am betting Australia.

Brilliant!! sorry about that. I tend to pick up on the avatars before the name. Believe it or not, i've dodged that bullet with you two a few times, today i wasn't so lucky!

So thanks for both the snippet and the website, will entertain me for a few hours.

I'll leave the original post intact as a memorial to stupidity

Thank you!!! Excellent find! I have a whole collection of photos of Air Hostesses who are beauty pageant winners and others of various pageants for hosties as well.

The interesting thing about this clip (apart from how British Pathe have somehow managed to claim Copyright for it!) is that the 1966 clip proclaims that it is the 50th international Air Hostess competition!!! Assuming that there was only one per year, that would mean the contest started in 1916 - a whole 14 years before the first air hostesses appeared!

The girl you mention, Furry, was Denise Rennsion who was Miss New South Wales in 1964. She was a go-go dancer before joining Qantas. The Sydney visit was held the same week that Lyndon B Johnson was visiting Sydney! The contestants toured most of the country before the actual contest 2 weeks later - that gives you some idea of how much these sky girls captured the imagination of the general public back then, and what objects of glamour they were.

Here is a snippet from the Sydney Morning Herald of 24 October, 1966...

and a photo of Denise Rennison as Miss NSW 1964!

Thanks again for that classic footage - I will definitely be sharing more hostess pageant contestants with you in the future!
