Wow Doc, great pics!

By the way, looks like Emil lost some weight in that one picture of him and his bevy.

They are not real hosties. They are from "movies".

You should see the pics I can't post from this movie!

It is very clear though that the uniforms are modelled on those worn by PSA in the 70's.

Today's Post - was going to be a History theme, but looks like I'll do Fantasy today by special request and History can wait until tomorrow.

How is that fantasy? I used to fly with flight attendants all the time like that.

Todays Post - HISTORY!

The first commercial aeroplane flights were not in cabin liners but often 2-seater aircraft. It was not until the late 20's and early 30's that mail delivery by air became common and bigger aircraft were employed. Often passengers would simply sit on the mail bags.

But before all that there was a completely different type of air travel that was becoming popular in Europe - the Age of the Zeppelins!

These enormous airships revolutionised air travel in Europe and across the Atlantic in the beginning of the 20th Century. They were competing against Pullman coaches and passenger ships for customers and the level of luxury certainly matched them.

Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin became convinced of the utility of airships after serving as an observer in a balloon whilst on military secondment to the Union Army in the American Civil War. When he re-entered civillian life in the 1890's he began constructing his first dirigibles on the Bodensee.

His company, DELAG, became the world's first passenger airline when the airship LZ7 "Deutschland" flew pasengers in 1909. In 1911, the zeppelin LZ10 "Schwaben" boasted the world's first Cabin Crew or Flugbegleiterin to cater for the passengers needs. They were all male like a ship's cabin stewards.

Now, here are the pics!

Inside of early zeppelin

Steward (Flugbegleiter) Service

The standard of the fittings and comfort improved after the Great War.

The Story of the "Schwaben"

I sometimes hope we will see these great airships undergo a rennaissance. They must have been unbelievably majestic... And they saw the advent of the first hosties!!

Re: Air Hostesses

Your intelligence is amazing Doc!

Anyhow it is interesting how the cabins looked. They looked like banquet halls even equipped with a chef!

Yeah I was always a Led Zeppelin fan!!!
