Classic Hosties of Defunct Airlines.

I just love this photo - everything about it. It's like time transport!

Re: Air Hostesses

With the Tour de France already well underway, so why not a little look at Air France over the years? The pics I will be posting over the next few days come from Air France's excellent website.

During the 1930's, prior to Air Hostesses starting with Air France, the airline had stewards that wore uniforms akin to those worn by the maritime counterparts on cruise ships.

Re: Air Hostesses

The first air hostesses started with Air France in 1946.

The first uniforms were designed by Georgette Rénal. As was typical for the times, the uniforms had a very military bearing. Rénal had her House of Haute Couture on the Avenue du Président Roosevelt in Paris from 1946 to 1966.

(Only one year later, Pierre Cardin updated the uniforms with a more feminine cut.)

The stewardess seen on the front cover of Du Monde and on the ladder, embarking the DC4 was Air France's first Hotésse de l'Air.
