Bummer. He was a great singer/songwriter. I knew he wasn't doing well. Just lost his wife a few months ago. He lived a pretty rough life.

Blondie are my favourite group.
My favourite local group that no one probably has ever heard of would be a band from Dublin called U2

You will definitely have heard of them
They were very big in the late 70s and early 80s and recently hit the charts again with "Maria" which was their first single in 16 years and entered the UK charts at number 1.
Their big hits include several US and UK number 1s. Some examples:
Atomic
Sunday Girl
Heart of Glass
Call me
The tide is high
Hangin' on the telephone
Rapture

-On the local top chart lists
you wouldn't recognize them as they are (mostly) French and I only listen to the radio when I drive - so I don't pay attention to what is hot or not. However, my daughter is starting to let me know what is "in" and "out"
-Retro
(most of them are still around)
Rush, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Kraftwerk, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Kansas, Pat Benatar, Cheap Trick, ELO, Alan Parsons, America, Led Zep, Missing Persons, Steve Miller Band, Zebra...
-Known but not on the top chart list( or used to be but disappeared already from the top chart list)
I think the best band that I have come across in the past 3-4 years is Shades Apart.
-international (French artist that is unknown outside of France)
Gérald De Palmas
