1:600 or 1:1000?
Hi guys-
Would like to talk about the smaller scales- 1:1000 scale and 1:600. I've seen what I consider to be pretty well detailed examples in both scales, Hogan 1:1000 and Schuco's 1:600 (the a380 examples look impressive). Which would you say is more collectable in terms of size, detail and variety of airlines, and maybe, what scale is better in terms of accessories, terminal buildings, diorama, etc? Which scale is more popular? I know I'm asking a minority here. Thanks, Richard |

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
I used to collect schabak 1:600 models, I still have a whole closet full of them. 1:600 used to be the dominant scale for model civillian aircraft collectors. Back in the 1980s, schabak was king, with hundreds of models, all of which used decals, as Tampo printing hadnt been perfected and applied to the hobby yet. 1:1000 is a rather new scale, its been around say since 2000.
As you know 1:400 and 1:500 are now the dominant scale of serious collectors. Since herpa entered the game in the 90s, people have come to expect a lot more detail in thier models than can be pressed into a tiny 1:600 and 1:1000 model, as such people go to the bigger scales. I have to say, that the new 1:600 Schuco/Schabak models as well as the herpa "Magic" line are fantastic compaired to the ones from the 80s and early 90s. They really have come a long way and are quite collectable. all things considered, you have to remember 1:600 and 1:1000 have resurged since 1:500 and 1:400 models have both outpriced themselves. An old Herpa model used to cost around 10 a,d 20 DM, but now cost arounf 17 to 22 Euros, whiuch is almost three times what they used to. They now have many many more details and appeal to serious colelctors, but in doing so alienate children and lay collectors. 1:600 and 1:100 came about as cheaper versions that are more accessable, and do to their smaller size, weight and packaging can be sold aboard flights as souvineirs. Most collectors consider them to be childrens toys, or poor mans models. Like i said, collectors are willing to pay for quality and detail that these just dont have. I however still have a warm spot for the 1:600 scale in my heart, as its the one i grew up on. Its because of the accessibility they once had that i was able to develop my hobby from a very young age and become the collector i am today. But unfortunatly I too went the way of the "serious collector" (that is if its even possible to take ourselves seriously) and went for the 1:500 scale. |

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
I would decide on the scale 1/1000. The small models are well detailed. Hogan already has some models and will produce other models during the next years. I think 1/1000 is a good choice. You can see some models here: Wings 1/1000

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
Go with 1/600 (I have to say this) because they are much cheaper and bigger than these tiny 1/1000 planes. Schuco already offers a wide variety of aircrafts and airlines from all over the world and also improve the old Schabak moulds from time to time. More and more airport shops offer 1/600 models so you wont have any problems to get some of them.
Schuco :: SCHABAK 1:600

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
Hello Taiga Shinjiro,
as CO777/200 already explained : if you staggering between 1:1000 and 1:600 Gues you never see a 1:1000 Viscount or similar smal models .. the model range is limited due the very smal size .. If you only like "aircrafts of today" (bigger ones) then you may collect 1:1000 but to have a wider range itīs simply 1:600 to an acceptable price ( near a half to scale 500 models) also additional equipment for a diorama (trucks, stairs, cars) is much easier to get for scale 600 but the final yes or no itīs your own decision

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
1:600 because the 1:1000 is more expensive and less variety

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
I am thinking of possibly going down the 1:600 route, however I don't seem to find anyone selling 1:600 aircraft or buildings. There is only 2 planes on ebay UK and nothing coming up on Google for airport buildings.
Could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in anticipation.

Re: 1:600 or 1:1000?
I still have a large collection of Schabak 1:600 but they were not that detailed so I moved on to 1:400 gemini jets and phoenix.
