Royal Flying Doctor Service Pilatus PC12/45

Guilt has gotten the better of me. This is a thread I meant to post many months ago.

I'd like to share this model - 1 of a series of 6 - made by Hogan for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) - Western Australia branch. I think they are 1:160 scale and are diecast replicas of the Pilatus PC 12/45's that the branch re-equipped with a year ago.

The RFDS is a service that provides medical care to the people of remote areas of Australia (the Outback). Whilst they do receive some government assistance, funds are mostly self-raised to keep this essential service alive and well.

The RFDS was started back in 1928 in Queensland by the Rev John Flynn. Early on, the aircraft and pilots were supplied by Qantas and then TAA. Since the 1960's the service has owned and maintained its own aircraft. The late Sir Robert Menzies, Former Prime Minister of Australia 1939-41 & 1949-66, once very aptly said that the Flying Doctor Service represented the "greatest single contribution to the effective settlement of the far distant back country that we have witnessed in our time..."

It is said that they have the largest waiting room of anywhere in the world.

I, myself am not a medico with the RFDS but I have been a long-time supporter. The WA chapter commissioned these diecast aircraft to help raise funds. I am delighted to be able to act as an intermediary for the RFDS for anyone wishing to purchase one, or indeed the whole set of 6.

They cost USD $25 each or the set of six for USD $120. I will do postage at actual cost.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Doc

It's 1/150 PC-12 manufactured by Hogan Wings. The tooling is owned by Pilatus..

Back in June you said it was 1:160 and when I measured it against scale that seemed right but I guess the tolerances are too small to be sure. Do you know if it is 1:150 or 1:160?

In any event it is a nice model and comes with a display stand. I will try and take some pics with the stand and the box which can be used for the database as this model does not yet appear - it is an exclusive one!!!

Was able to confirm with the manufacturer. It should be 1/150...

I searched for photos of the Pilatus, this one seems to have a tail logo and yours doesnt. Could this be a older release ?

I dont know who this guy is, but I like the model he have in his hand.

The picture shows Nathan Bracken, a fast bowler for the Australian Test Cricket team, with a model of the RFDS Pilatus but it is in a larger scale and probably not diecast. The RFDS is one of the charities that the Australian cricket team support.

In fact, the actual aircraft have now got sponsorships painted on their vertical stabilizers which were not there originally. Now each of the aircraft looks unique. I guess that is a fairly easy custom I may be able to do later if I get a duplicate set of the fleet.

Re: Royal Flying Doctor Service Pilatus PC12/45

Someone had sent an email to "me", actually my wife's email (I don't know how she got it) about getting one of these fine models. I received mine as a gift from a wonderful friend from downunder. So I am not the one you need to contact about getting one.
