I partially agree with you, my thoughts are that since the 1/400 scale is steadily becoming the largest scale by collectors now a-days, thanks to GJ, DW, and PHX with high quality good looking models, that the 1/500 industry is scaling back, look at Herpa, the loss of StarJets and so forth. I had a few 1/500 and found that as a collector they just don't have the quality that those of the 1/400 scales do. Another thing is cost, all over the world there is a big abundance of spotters, here in the US as I am sure you know there is quite a bit, but unfortunately thats as far as most people go, just watching them and not getting into the hobby, we all know this hobby is very expensive, but then again, what hobby isn't.
