It's amazing for me to hear new CX sets from herpa 1:500. But I don't know why we have to pay more time and money to collect them. That is not fair, right ? How do you all think ?

You are spot on. These special release models are very expensive because the companies ordering them have found out about this hobby and the prices collectors are willing to pay.
NOT ME. |

I agree with you both. The time is fast coming when models are released purely to make a quick buck off the back of the collectors!
Totally unfair, but that's life! ![]() Richard. |

Hi
If every model was the same price there would be no fun in finding and saveing up for the different models, I think some could be a little less but i would prefer a challange to buy one rather than just go into any old shop and get it |

Well, I think it is the right of any airline to say what they do with models THEY order and pay for.
The fact that through some connections and some smart collectors a SMALL number of those models does also reach the die-cast collectors market is known. Some collectors say OK and like that they can get rare models that were not avilable at all some two years ago. They are willing to pay a small or high premium for this services. Some collectors say NO and demand that all models are only released to the general market. They are only willing to pay the standard price - which is BTW always too high... But that is not how the business works, it's the airline that decides what to do, not the model manufacturer. Some airlines do not even give the OK for a model, they just do not want one at all. We can discuss this back an forth, but we will not change the mind of people like Cathay or ANA or Air Bosnia. The pay, they decide. Take it or leave it. Buy it or walk away. There are enough models on the market to build a VERY nice and VERY large collection, it does not have to be anything that is high priced. I agree with Karl. If there were no rare models to find and collect then there is no point collecting them. It's fun to finally achieve getting the rare model you have wanted for ages

Hi Andy and friends,
I do agree it is up to the airlines to decide what to do. It is their OWN logo, and company policy. What 'leak out' into the collector market and prices to pay for is a market force, and it is part of the fun of collecting.(Do you collect stamps ?? Consider rare stamps too, it is the same !) You just could'nt imagine the fun and joy I have when I receive the two container trucks gift set from Cathay Pacific Air Cargo. Collecting do cost money, and it is up to you to decide how much you like to invest into the hobby. Have fun. |
