Heh heh, you beat me to this thread FD!!!
I was going to start a post just now.I have barely heard any mention of Just Plane Fun from any of the members here in recent weeks...or even months. How did they get the nod for the Preferred Retailer? I used to shop there for all of my models little over a year ago. However, 3 or 4 mistakes in a row with my orders, such as damaged models, extra models I never requested, missing models, convinced me to look elsewhere for a while. The customer service was great in that they immediately offered to fix the problems, however I was still responsible for covering the shipping charges to send back models that arrived damaged or that were shipped to me even though I didn't order them. Turn-around time for receiving replacement models was also fairly lengthy. That pretty much negated any savings that I was getting from them. Also, I used to regularly compare prices between JPF and the Airline Museum, and the AM had cheaper prices on the majority of items. However, all of sudden when I checked JPF today, they had cheaper prices on many of the items...some quite significantly. Was this just in an effort to become the Preferred Retailer? I still would've liked to see the Airline Museum selected as the preferred retailer. Scott has gone beyond the call of duty on several occasions to find answers to my questions and provide me with unbeleivable customer service. He's even covered the return shipping charges on the one occasion that an order was mixed up!!! I get very prompt replies to emails, fast and secure shipping, and service that is well worth an extra 50 cents or dollar on some items. Please understand that I am in no way bashing Just Plane Fun. They were the first online retailer that I ever used, and were my first major supply of models for my collection...my experiences in the past with them were great! They did not in any way perform any kind of "bad business" with me, but for the reasons that I supplied above, I chose to look elsewhere for a while and came across Scott at the Airline Museum. I have gotten such a personal touch with Scott's service that I haven't had any need to look elsewhere. I may still start to use JPF again for my 1:400 model needs since having the stamp of approval from Wings900 means their service must stay up to par. But in my opinion, I still think that the Airline Museum should have gotten the nod for the Wings900 Preferred Retailer program...they had the lowest prices on the majority of items in 1:500 for quite some time and if not for anything else, then for the amazing service that Scott provides to his customers. Anyone else have any opinions? ![]() [Edited by Swami8 on 05-09-2002 at 09:17 AM] |

Swami8 and All,
Wings900 was put into a very tough position. We did look at both retailers Just Plane Fun and Airline Museum.com. From what we could tell, our users wanted better prices, good service, and inexpensive shipping. With that, we set out to find the best retailer. We built "shopping carts" from both retailers, compared prices, and had emails from both of the retailers showing what they had to offer. JPF got the nod because of lower prices (no they weren't lowered just because they are a preferred retailer), and free shipping for our users. Additionally, JPF now has a FULL TIME staff for shipping, customer service, returns, etc. Additionally they are expanding their business and will soon offer a toll free number. JPF will provide more info on this shortly, they are growing quite rapidly. For those of you who haven't seen their site, check it out at http://www.justplanefun.net We are working with Airline Museume on other model agreements, we don't want to leave any retailer out in the cold. We hope to announce that shortly. Additionally, please do let us know your experience with Eztoyz, JPF and other preferred retailers as they are announced so we can work with them to improve service and offers. Please do realize that its not easy setting up these preferred retailer agreeements. All retailers would like some part of the pie, and trying to choose is difficult to say the least. I think in the end, everyone will benefit from what we are doing. Any additional questions? -FD [Edited by Flight Director on 05-09-2002 at 09:40 AM] |

Wow, I didn't know about all of the changes over at JPF. Interesting to hear.
Hopefully you'll be able to work something out with the Airline Museum as well. They're both great retailers and I can totally understand when you say that you had a very tough choice.

I have ordered from both but shipping (not to mention customs) made me look elsewhere.
I am currently living in Europe and would like to see you guys find a preferred retailer here in Europe! I suggest http://www.aviation-center.de/ - N1786B |
