How much does it cost to make moulds?
How much is it to get licensing with an airline?

I would ask Herpa. As far as I remember: In one article Herpa told one time that a new mould can cost between 10.000 and 100.000,but it is only guessed, I don't remember it excacly!!!

Hi Airtransat and friends,
My experience with making moulds in Hong Kong was that if you want very high quality product, then it could cost as much as US$100,000 each !! Herpa was quite correct when they quoted the cost of their production cost.
A good quality mould could stamp out thousands of models before it got wear out. However a low quality (i.e. low grade metal or alloy) could only handle 200-500 at one time.
The cost of an airlines' licence is very complex and could range from tens of thousands of US dollars to almost nothing !! Usually it is about US$3000-5000 range for a limited terms licence. However, brand name products such as Disney, Olympic Games etc. are very very expensive, and the airlines that uses such logos (e.g. JAL, ANA or Ansett) don't even have a complete control of where and how these logo can be applied. That is why Herpa can issue Ansett on a regular general retail, but so far still uable to produce the Olympic livery version.
Licence is a big concern for a lot of professional producer, like Herpa. Remember, if you are not careful, the cost of a legal court could wipe out your Company !! Sure if you are a 'hill-side' gang, with no address (web site now ! Ha ! Ha !) to track, then it is a different story.
If you really want special and colourful livery that Herpa don't have, then you better have a lot of 'Vitamine M' to feed people like C&C and now this new Big 'stomach' Bird.
Have a fun day.
