Speedbird001 - My collection

Solicitor and Kev, as promised here my BA 747's....

As the my nickname suggests, BA being my favourite Airline.
I gathered quite a number of models over the years, some even duplicate (you can enever have enough BA's at the once to be done LHR Airport), but there are also many unique pieces I am very fond of...

First pic Shows my big 2 BA 1:500 boxes...I never unpacked them all at once, so this is a very interesting Moment for me too.....Never seen all models out of the box at same time.

The pics dont include any 1:400 BA's.

Second Picture....Big Brothers watching the Little ones learning to fly....

Re: Speedbird001 - My collection

Starting from the 70ies.....

into the 80ies/90ies....

Let's not Forget BOAC, the first BA 747's and the wonderful 80ies Landor style colours.

BOAC & BA 747-100/-200 and -400 including the ugly OG 744 Landor moulds and BA 744 Children's conference.

I especially love the 747-100/200 in Landor sytle.....old workhorses which were indispensable if you were thinking of creating a LHR Background.

Re: Speedbird001 - My collection

The reliable 747-200's even soldiered on with BA in the new World Images or Utopia schemes....until 9/11 attacks.
They were withdrawn from use and ferried to Cardiff.

There was even ONE 747-200 in Union Flag scheme (the big model is the same actually, G-BDXB.

At the end, small tail line up of -200's.

Re: Speedbird001 - My collection

Well, the World Images, hot Topic......
Hardly ever any livery was so much discussed and debated about with so much passion and arguments. People were either loving or hating them...

While I am definetely a big fan of Landor and would never, ever have abolished this scheme...
I still think the idea behind Utopia was a great one.
Yet, the public didnt get the understanding and so it was only a 2-3 year very expensive experiment for BA.

Thanks BA though for having the courage and bravery to try something new as a national and legacy carrier and giving at least us collectors a very interesting collection area.

1st Pic upfront one of my favourite schemes, Waves of the City (USA) and a bit behind Nami Tsuru (Japan)

Re: Speedbird001 - My collection

Unfortunately BA turned then to Union Flag only...then they could have left the Landor one tbh.....

Here are the Union tails and planes, including Dreamflight, Red Nose, Gold Nose and One World planes....many different Releases, Generations etc.

The new one G-BNLU with coat of arms is missing (as not yet registered)

Re: Speedbird001 - My collection

Last but not least and not to be forgotten :

British Asia Airways and BA World Cargo

That's about it for the 747 fleet, a few still have to be registered and a few customs still have to be done.

Thanks Kev & Solicitor for "pushing" me to dig them out...in the end it was a pleasure to see them again, havent taken them out of the boxes for Long...unfortunately time is not enough for my Hobby. Shame

If you wanna see more (BA or non BA) just let me know and I will try to figure something out.

Thanks...well, that is your fate if you are BA addicted from Day 1
I was told I could fly earlier before I could walk and BA is ever I can think of my favourite Airline. So that was a natural consequence...

wow speedbird, fantastic BA B747 fleet...I miss those "world tails" in the skies...they could easily be identified...for instance, when G-BNLV was on approach, one could make out it was "Waves of the City" now, when she is on approach, it is not so easy to spot her until her reg. becomes visible...stunning speedbirds mate!!!

Thanks Solicitor...now that I have the boxes open, I think about adding the rest to the pile.....

Agree that the World tails were cool, great idea. I really liked the Waves colours...I remember that I saw in one of BA's magazines when they invented the colours new even a graphic of a DC10 in Waves of the City colours. It looked terrific. I cant recall though in which it was and I still search for it, could have been one of the High Life's.

And also that the Subs used the colours, like DBA or TAT/Air Liberte was cool...
