ANA on Ebay

My son and I have been eyeing a 777-300ER ANA on ebay:

Hogan 1 500 ANA 777 300ER Aircraft Model ANA JA784A | eBay

ANA models seem to be hard (and expensive) to come by! But anyway...

We don't have any Hogan models, and the pictures are really nice. However, there are some markings that don't seem quite right...I would say are knicks in the paint (the best one I can think of is a small mark just in front of the horizontal stabilizer...the other would be two white specs in the dark blue ribbon just in front of the second passenger door).

Are these models just uber detailed and they are reproducing every concievable marking on the actual plane (which would be very impressive), or is this particular model one to avoid?

Thanks for reading!

My son is still looking for a MD-11 KLM "2004 colors" if anyone has one!

Re: ANA on Ebay

This model will be expensive because:

Shipping:
$48.99 Standard Int'l Shipping.

I was also looking at this:
hogan ANA 60th anniversary of 1:500 ANA 767-300 ja8674 aircraft model

The auction starts from US$ 0,99, but the shipping cost is US$ 67,99...this friend from ebay is very strange with his auctions!

Re: ANA on Ebay

I also took note of the rather eccentric shipping rate. This item ended yesterday with no bids and was relisted today.

I figured in total I could get it for a "reasonable" price...but no one went for it even at $0.99 opening bid! This is what got us thinking that maybe some of those "markings" aren't markings at all!

We almost went for the 767-300, but a 777 is a better bet from Narita to SFO! We also thought about the 787...may still consider it.

Oh Herpa...JAL 787-8 PLEASE!

Re: Crazy Price on eBay

ANA and JAL models are very expensive, even in Japan. ANA is highly (if not the most) detailed, JAL not so. Still, both are exclusively made by Hogan for the Japanese market, so there's no chance Herpa can make them.

If you want one, you'll have to bite the bullet (or be lucky and find a good offer on eBay). For a flawless copy of these two models, $.99 plus $50-70 in worldwide shipping is an "interesting" way to attract customers, but it's a good deal: They're officially 10500 and 16800 JPY, cf. http://www.wings900.com/vb/1-500-sca...2013-14-a.html

Considering this pops up before the models hit shops in Japan, they could be rejected copies (that spot does look suspicious) or otherwise not entirely legal.

Re: Crazy Price on eBay

Whenever I search Ebay for 'Lufthansa 1:400' or 'British Airways 1:400' there is one particular auctioneer from Germany who repeatedly lists models at Buy it Now prices between £60 and £300....for a 1:400 A320!!!! The models can be easily bought elsewhere for £20-£30, so I don't know how this guy makes money.

Some examples: Other Toys Games, Diecast Vehicles items in 1 400 store on eBay!

I must have missed that piece of information.

If a model is rejected during QA in the factory, it might well come in a white box. It certainly makes little sense to QA models after they've been packed.

But my guess is as good as anyone's.

I never would buy models from a seller who starts an auction at a price of 0,99 (US$ or Euro) and tells me that the shipping cost is 50, 60 or 70 US$ or Euro! It is a nonsense!
What does a shipping cost of 70 US$ means??? The model is sent by an airplane covered with gold? Julia Roberts will ring to your door giving the airplane with a kiss??? This seems like a joke!
Come on, starts the auction with a good price for the model you're selling and then decide the right shipping price. In Italy if you want to sent an object until 20 kg all over the world the max price you will pay is euro 20...

Right. Just saying, it can still be a good deal. The fact that the seller appears to want to screw the buyer doesn't make me want to use him either. The location is only specified as "China"

Felix Italia (for once)! In Germany, it's more expensive (no kisses included)...

Clearly the seller want to use a lower price to attract your eyeball...obviously the seller want to use the "postage fee" to make up the total price he received. Nevertheless these dodgy sellers are unreliable and should avoid in all cost

Re: Crazy Price on eBay

That's exactly what happened...I saw the low opening bid and then spit out my Coke when I saw the shipping. I thought for a moment that even if I paid (with shipping) 60 dollars for a hard to find model, then I could live with that. But I'm now of the opinion that this one should be passed on!

I watched a few reviews of Hogan models on YouTube where the collector was able to get some really nice close up shots of the model...didn't see as many markings on those models as I did on the Ebay listing, so I think you guys are correct...slipped past QC!

On with the search...!

On with the search...!
Two things:

1) ANA Precision Models are so detailed they almost look like someone from L.A. Ink. But you won't be disappointed - all the details are well-placed. The only other item that was as detailed were the early EVA models. And I say early because the later ones don't seem to be as detailed as the initial two Hello Kitties and the 77W.

2) There is this particular seller on ebay with dirt-cheap starting price and exorbitant shipping fees. You will see him in various names but I think he is only one and the same person - notice how the stand on photos of his SJ models are reversed. Be very wary of him. I once bought a model and it came with chipped off paint. I returned the item and his return address was nonexistent!!! I did not know at that time there was ebuyer protection and so I lost around 50 dollars (25 for the model and 25 for shipping).

I highly suggest you buy direct from a reputable seller, such as a genuine store. I got most of my ANA models from Crosswing, Japan. You ARE paying a premium for service, but that won't give you any headaches! Their service is really good.

Re: Crazy Price on eBay

I once bought an Herpa Air Berlin A320 from these sellers, I was outbid at the last moment but immediately got a second offer (I guess is a way for the seller to get the maximum price you are willing to pay). The model took ages to arrive and has a broken front gear. NEVER ATTEMPT to buy from these doggy sellers guys you will regret!
