Just because you or me want something very much, doesn't necessarily mean it'll sell well. Most collectors here are quite "regional" and most of the times want models from their area. But these regions of the world might be the weakest markets for 1/500 scale... and just because there would be more models released from a certain area of the world, doesn't necessairily mean there'll be more collectors...

Certain models with a so-called "wow"-factor actually attract people to buy them, too, who usually don't buy a model aircraft at all. Those models are usually new and unusual planes like the A380, Space Shuttle (+B747), DreamLifter, Super Guppy or now the AN-225... It is hard to judge actual sales without a look at the numbers. I'm just pretty sure that most businesses are not run by completly incompetent people. They might make their mistakes (=human), but overall they should know what they're doing...
You have a very valid point about novelty planes. But even on this front, Herpa and others, I suppose, are quite hesitant without the financial backing of a customer, say the Boeing Store, etc.

I still think that the "regular" planes they make are still their bread-and-butter: sell-able to both collectors and the souvenir crowds. To consolidate your main product is one thing, and to spread yourself over a large area is quite another.

We don't have exact figures with us to judge the competence of their management. But I'm willing to make a guess based on their current financial situation.

QF 744 and AA 757WL will be a must have for me. Especially the Qantas which will look amazing next to my A380.

I want them back with this:
yeah i agree with you, the new mexicana livery is horrible, they should bring back the old livery, i liked the different colours on the tails like purple and green and yellow, very sharp i have to say.

the Azteca livery is ok, but a little plain, the livery on the tail is sort of similar to Transaero, except that it is in green and red.

Sorry, but I can't help but bash that FUGLY mould...compare the above, especially the engines and pylons, with the ANA plastic model (F-Toys):

If only the F-Toys were still widely available...

As new models from Herpa Wings I would like to see the:

Antonov AN-12 Cub and the Embraer 135/145 which both are interesting aircraft which can be seen at many airports around the world.

As new liveries from Herpa Wings I would like to see the:

Antonov AN-124 in Antonov Design Bureau livery.
Airbus A-319/320 in Air Malta livery.
Canadair Bombardier CRJ-900 in Libyan Airways livery.
Airbus A-319 new generation model in British Airways livery.
Boeing B-737-400 new generation in British Airways current livery.

Thanks as always to Herpa Wings for their very unique and accurate range of diecast model aircraft. Keep up the very good work.

yeah you have a good point there, they are a good model company, i have been collecting their 1:500 scale planes for nearly 13 years now.
It would be definitely nice to see an Air Malta Airbus A319/320, although i would like to see a B737-200 or B720B model too. Inflight500 have released the -200 in their livery.

I also like the new Libyan Arab Airlines livery it's very attractive, I wish herpa would release a B707 or BAC-1-11 model in their livery too.

Re: Herpa NEWS Toy Fair 2009

As I live in the tiny of Malta which is situated in the middle of the Mediterranean region I feel Herpa Wings has completely neglected this region because the only models I can recall from the Mediterranean region have been released years ago and there are many interesting and colourful airlines in this region which are worth reproducing in both 1:500 and 1:400 scale starting with RAM, Air Algerie, Tunisair, Sevenair, Libyan Airways, Afriqijah, Egyptair, AMC Aviation, Air Cairo, EL AL, Royal Jordanian, Syrian Airlines and lots more. I hope that Herpa Wings give more weight to this interesting region in their future releases.

The airberlin plane is absolutely terrible! The PAL plane continues to amuse me though. Haha.
