HOLY CR@P!!! What an abomination!!!

If they release models in this mould, then it's goodbye Herpa! And I mean they will lose a lot of customers!

I don't even know where to start - the gears are chunky; the pylons and engines look primitive; the belly bulge is all but gone; the wing seems to bend upwards towards the wingtip; and it seems to suffer from a fat rear section.

Didn't they mention that they will try and attach the wings this way whenever possible? Beginning with the A320...I hate to think this is the shape of things to come...

Re: Herpa NEWS Toy Fair 2009

Certainly this model needs refinement, but just for comparison:

Morphed picture sample- morphed with real plane in similar angle (not quite matching as you can see I had to place the engines a bit higher to meet the air berlin letters at the fuselage, but probably gives you a better imagination):

On the other side I am very pleased to see the plastic finally being replaced by metal.
The engines and the tail look metal made too!

Let´s wait and see the final results!

I have been a fan of the SR71 since some years, although i haven't seen one in real.

Now that there will be one in 1/200, i hope 1/500 will follow, but i have been waiting for the PBY in 1/500 also....

Go Blackbird !

Bye, Chris.

They could add some emergency or escape markings...but I suppose PAL wants to keep the models "cheap." Their 744+343 set lacks the passenger window frames, etc. and retails for an unbelievable price of USD28! That's only USD14 per model if you divide the price of the set per model! The 744 and 343 sold through the regular sales collection was already USD17~18 upwards each.

The Herpa 1/1000th scale range is completely different from Hogan's. Hogan has it's own 1/1000th scale line-up....

The SilkAir set was made on request of the airline for internal use. Herpa doesn't really have a choice, if the airline wants 1/400 scale (as they already had before). Read the respective article in Wings World 1/2009...

The precision model/toy industry has to be seen as a luxury good. Its no suprise to me that that industry, herpa inclusive is in big trouble.

The models herpa has chosen to produce using borrowed molds actualy make a bit of sense. Molds like the 747Dreamlifter, VC-10, SuperGuppy are all molds that are obviously not worth time time and money that it would take to break even. This gives the owners of those molds, whoever they are a chance to earn a commission instead of sitting idle, and Herpa gets the chance to produce and distribute these unique models under the name of Herpa. Aside from a christmas model, we may never see any of these used ever again by herpa.

It kind of makes sence with these rather unique planes, but I think the tactic is reprehensible when it comes to more common airlines such as the L-1011, 737, or what else have you. It completely homogenizes the industry and makes brands irrelevant, which harms the industry as a whole. Whats the point if everyone is borrowing from the same pool of molds?

Right now im willing to turn a blind eye on this practice, since the economy is in the dumps and for manufacturers to survive will take cooperation like never before.

This is a mixed blessing for us collectors, it could mean fewer repeats, higher quality, nicer and newer molds. But we will have to cope with homogeneity, and of course higher prices.
Very well said! I agree 100% with your views regarding this issue!

There are dozens of plane models with gazillions of possibilities screaming to be made other than these two.

Now they have dead-end moulds that they have to share with each other in order to survive.
Please remember that these moulds were made for Netmodels/Sky500 who seem to be operating without licences (=lower costs). Regarding the DreamLifter they have already managed to release 4 or 5 versions and I'm pretty sure we'll see more of the Super Guppy, too (Aeromartime, NASA, Airbus different livery). The market always seems to be more responsive to these "special" and very large aircraft than to regular airliners. Just look at the demand for the B747SCA with the Space Shuttle or the AN-225...

Interesting, is this a new mould ? I´m not sure if the new ATR versions are externally that different compared to the older ones.
