HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
i'd like to hear some feedback regarding mail order services from HKG (or perhaps around Asia). i'm trying to keep delivery costs down so i'm planning on ordering from as near a shop as possible to Manila.
i currently live in SEAsia (Manila) and i don't have any shopping trip scheduled for HKG soon, so i'm thinking of ordering some models by mail from there (or perhaps you can suggest other shops from around the region?). i searched the 1:500 and 1:400 message boards and most of the feedback were about visiting the shops in person, and i read nothing about mail order services. i've read many times about toymaxco's good service. indeed their web site has a lot of info, including delivery charges. however, i'm chasing after the IF500 NZ DC-10 and it seems it is only available at westmaintoys... and the feedback has not been so good, at least for actual shopping (not mail order): http://www.wings900.com/vb/1-500-sca...g-shop-hk.html was this an isolated event? because if true, i'm afraid she might rip me off... i also read about air bus models, but they don't have any web site. any feedback and info appreciated.

Re: HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
i've tried westmaintoys before. they were very accommodating. they have a very active customer service (via email) so all questions will be answered within 24 hours. when you actually purchase a product they will give you the tracking number of your parcel (just used HK postal service).
since i used HK postal service when it arrived in Manila, there was no way for me to track the progress of the parcel. had to wait for one month for the pick-up slip of PhilPost to arrive. |

hikouki, JFK AEROS, JFK AERO MODELS , has the IF500 NZ DC-10 also, I dont know how they do on shipping as we have a mutual friend that flies back and forth between Taiwan and HK often for business and delivers all my orders without any shipping charge. But I can tell you he will work with you all he can in finding the best way to get the model to you at the best price.

Re: HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
I was just at West Main Toys earlier this month and no complaints. Was there for about 3 or 4 hours since it was my first time there, and the guy and the owner (nice lady who only spoke Cantonese, I think) were very helpful and accommodating. Answered all my questions, even as they were helping other customers out. Kind of felt bad I took up a lot of their time, but was a good experience overall.
Also been to Toymax and the owners are great people too! Wouldn't mind placing an online order with them, but I would rather visit their store. Robert (owner) told me they would check the model to make sure its ok before they send it out. And I wouldn't doubt this since they were careful as they helped me check the models I bought from them. Felix at JFK Aero is also a good guy to help you. Wouldn't hurt to send them an enquiry via email. |

Re: HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
On a side note about West Main Toys, I walked in with a list of items I wanted from their website and asked the guy working the price for each of these models separately without referring to the list, and he quoted the price on their website. So no rip-off experience for me. Actually, the little lady gave me a little gift for my purchases...I think it was a Sabena DC-10. At first she asked if I was interested in it, and would sell it to me for HKD$90. After she saw how much I bought from them, she gave it to me as a gift. LOL! Had to look up where Sabena flew out of.
Also, the OP on the other thread ripped into Toymaxco...tbh, can't see Robert having any type of attitude. Like I said before, very pleasant folks at both West Main Toys and Toymax. Speaking of which, I need to go to this Happy shop and see what they're talking about....the unhappy owner who checks your bag as you walk in. That should be an interesting experience. Also have to visit Park Tai for the first time, the next time I'm in HK. |

Re: HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
yup, i've been to WMT and toymax and i have bought from their shops many times in the past. service is okay.
most of you guys are caucasians. i notice these shops, and asian shops in general, tend to be extra nice to white people. no racial offense meant. i base this statement from your feedback and my own personal experience at toymax. once i was buying several models from them, and the husband and wife team guarding the stalls were assisting me open the boxes. then a french guy came in and i was left on my own! then i had to jostle my way to the counter with all my models. all three of them kept smiling and s*cking up to the guy, even speaking in a lousy french with thick cantonese accent. they were all smiles to him and they could only give me a blank face. not to mention they were in a hurry to make me pay so i could leave the stall.it is an asian thing, i suppose because even here, i get set aside in favor of the wandering foreigner. i guess i don't receive prompt replies from them since i always mention my location on my email inquiries. WMT treats me a tad better, though.

TBH, I didn't notice any difference and I'm Chinese. While I was at Toymax a westerner did show up but they did not abandon me to rush to his side. However, they did leave us alone to shop.

Re: HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
someone actually told me that the guy running the shop actually has a 'day-job' - he is a butcher.

Re: HELP: need feedback on mail order from HKG
I regularly order from several shops in Hong Kong and I have never had a problem with any of them.
