Wow!! You are missing some MAJOR operators. I know that Big Bird Avaition Models have got several B772's at great prices, with included shipping in the UK. It's not easy to get some of these models such as the V Aus. Also - do you mean Kenya Airways?
I would get a B772 in KQ only if GJ made it in the new livery - also, AirParadigm was selling the Kenya Airways GJ B772 for $12.00USD! So quite cheap, LOL. Good luck!!

Re: Collection Themes

I think it really depends on what kind of airport I am building. Right now I am collecting mostly Mexican airlines.

Re: Collection Themes

I started off primarily wanting to collect Delta Airlines because my stepdad was a Delta captain and I have lots of memories of flights on them. I also travel for work a lot so I began trying to collect everything I've flown on. I'm still not quite there yet (and ironically, I have yet to obtain an American MD-80, and living in DFW I've flown on vastly more of those than anything else....I'm gonna have to get a 1:200 one...but I digress...).

But the bug bit me pretty hard so I've branched out into pretty much anything I think is a cool livery, and I would like to get at least one of each civilian aircraft type that's out there (don't really care about military - I do have a couple of P-3's though because I've flown on them).

So I'm up to the 308 mark in 1:400 and have more on the way (my wife just shakes her head). We're in the process of building display shelves in our new house and my intent is to display them in roughly geographical layout, although I'm not sure if that will be feasible in practice. I laid them all out on the floor in their boxes and it's a decent distribution that looks sorta like a world map (see pic), but I may have to alter that somewhat. Africa and Russia are a little thin for their respective large areas. Any ideas welcome

Re: Collection Themes

I'm focusing my (starting) collection on 1:400 models of brazilian airliners (VARIG, VASP, TAM, TransBrasil, OceanAir, etc), some south americans (Aerolineas Argentinas, Avianca, LAN, LADECO, PLUNA, Viasa, LAP, LAB), portuguese (TAP and charters), Angolan (TAAG) and others (airliners or military transport aircraft) which operated, operates or just landed at Rio de Janeiro (GIG and SDU) airports.

Exceptions are prototypes or very rare aircraft, such as Boeing 787-X, A380, AN-225.

Re: Collection Themes

I'm now aiming to collect most of the international/UK airlines that serve LHR.

Re: Collection Themes

My latest addition is Ghana Airways DC-10-30 9G-ANA... it was chartered by KLM in 1983 to operate some AMS-GIG-AMS flights:

Re: Collection Themes

I really don't have a theme. I purchase based on what I like and price. I keep the price to under 30 USD per plane.

I am currently arranging my planes in several groups:
- Alaskan airlines (Alaska, Markair, etc)
- Hawaiian airlines (Aloha, Hawaiian)
- Delta and predecessors (Delta, Northwest, Northeast, Western, Pan Am, etc)
- Continental and predecessors (Continental, original Frontier, Texas International, etc)
- Braniff
- Asia
- United and predecssors (United, Capitol)
- Europe
- Africa
- Australia and Pacific Ocean
- Latin America
- Caribbean
- Southwest
- American and predecessors (American, TWA, Trans Caribbean, etc)

Ones that don't fit into the above groups are scattered here and there. Some are next to the groups above and others are in a group by themselves.

Even though I knew it in the back of my mind, it really hit home just how many airlines have merged, especially Delta and Continental.

Re: Collection Themes

I have several themed collections, mostly based about my nostlaga for my time growing up close to Manchester Airport and then working for BA at LGW & LHR and latterly, SFO
  • BA & it's history - anything 1/400 in BOAC, BEA and BA schemes
  • Manchester Airport '80s - anything 1/400 that would have been seen at MAN from 1980-1990
  • Heathrow & Gatwick '80s - anything 1/400 seen at LHR or LGW from 1980-1990
  • Aircraft I've flown on - 1/400
  • San Francisco International - 2000-2010 - anything 1/500 at the SFO I.T in the last decade
  • Miscellaneous 1/400 - anything 1/400 I like that doesn't quite fit into the above, currently focusing on 707s and DC-10s
All great fun.

That's a great idea that would fit with my collection - creating lineages of airlines.

By the way sorry to nitpick but it wasn't Capitol that was taken over by UA but Capital. I think there's only been a Constellation made for Capital. The only jets they ever operated were some B720s leased from UA just prior to the merger in 1961/62.

Capitol was a charter / low cost transatlantic carrier from the 70s and 80s. They used DC-8s and DC-10s I think.

If anyone needs a Capital Airways Conny, I got one in HE200 scale. Let me know on PM.

No need to apologize for nitpicking. I should have checked my spelling before posting. Capital is the airline merged into United and Capitol is the charter operator.

I have a model of each one: A Connie 749 for Capital and a DC-8-61 for Capitol.

Excellent. They are both on my list of models to get. I'd love to see more Capital airlines models - they were a big carrier in their day.

How about $175.99 each?

Just kidding - I collect for one reason: I like the models. I don't collect models as an investment.

Good luck on getting the Capital/Capitol models.
