Angry Help! My New B747!

Help!

I have just bought a British Airways B747-400 made by Gemini Jets, only to find when it arrived that one of the RR RB211-524's is bent!

What shall I do, do I try to bend it back, or leave it, or even try to send it back?

Regards

Matt

Re: Help! My New B747!

Sorry but it has happened to every BA 747. don't try to bend it back it will just snap off then it will look worse. We cant do any think about it was up to Gemini to make it better.

Re: Help! My New B747!

I received a Virgin "Birthday Girl" B747 with just this problem (one engine bent) and I took the risk to bend it straight.

Yes... I used pliers to do it , BUT around the engine I had a thick wad of gauze to protect it and I went Ohhhhhhhhh soooooooo carefully when I did it.

Whew , no break , a straight engine , and Bob's your uncle.

Re: Help! My New B747!

Mine has the same problem. Nearly every batch has it! I've requested for a long time for GeminiJets to bring out a new, flawless one! When G-CIVW came out, I thought it was going to be an improvement of G-CIVV, with a fixed engine... BUT NO! IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME!

There is one way of fixing it though, although you should definatly ask other members of better ways, as I kind of mucked my wing up just a little tiny bit.

1. Wiggle the engine up and down a bit and try to separate it from the engine pylon.

2. Get a pair of plyers (pliers?) and stick some thick double-sided tape on the teeth, leaving the side not stuck to the teeth with the sticker (sorry, not very good with the terminology) kept on.

3. Gently squeeze the plyers (or however you spell it) onto the engine pylon and slowly bent the pylon downwards.

4. Put the engine back onto the engine pylon and check to see if you did it correctly.

Here's an image of what I did:

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DO WHAT I DID AND CHIP THE WING

Now, as you can see, I haven't bent the engine pylon down too far (in fact - not far enough) because I was worried that the metal would fatigue and snap right off, so I tried to do the best I could (poor result to the wing, but looks OK when looking at the aircraft at normal viewing distance). I'd rather not buy G-CIVW and do this with it because I may break it and waste my money. I'm just going to sit here and wait for GeminiJets to bring out a new, flawless one.

LOOK:

Even in this image from GJ, you can see that engine number 1 is slighly bent upwards (the far left engine):

His problem is that there have already been numerous threads already about this and if you use the search function you would be able to find it... He just used bigger words.

P.S. Watch the language please.

Exclamation Re: Help! My New B747!

Yes, a lot do have this bent engine pylon but for god's sake don't use any tools on them! They can be moved into the correct position by applying progressive pressure using just your fingers but nice and slowly, and it won't chip your wings! Not one of my Gemini 747's have broken whilst undergoing this corrective treatment and some have had some extreme pitch up. This subject just keeps coming up over and over again............

With your fingers? I'll probably be so worried of breaking my engine pylon or mucking the process up that'll I'll sweat and keep on slipping off the pylon! However, if this method works - it proves to be better! I've got to try it! Next time I get a GJ BA 747 (probably G-CIVW), I'll do what you suggest. I really do think that a model manufacturer like GeminiJets really should be making top-noch models! If I pay good money, I expect a good product!

No, I don't think he was talking about that. Dylan's annoyed with Jacob because he said 'we cant do any think about it...', containing spelling and grammar mistakes. He was mainly focusing on the fact that Jacob put 'think' instead of 'thing', or even worse: anything is the correct word to use and Jacob split the word up (and said 'think' of course).

Re: Help! My New B747!

I think the planes we buy aren't really cheap. Gemini and all the other model companies need to have quality control.

Re: Help! My New B747!

All I gotta say is that this is a flaw that pops up on the GJ 744 mould apparently. I think the problem goes down to how they put in the engine at the factory.

Well excuse me... your seem quite happy to let other members use "profanity". I could understand your point if I wrote it in full, but that clearly is not appropriate!

YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR OWN OPINIONS TO YOURSELF... A/HOLE (I DIDN'T SAY IT!)

This was the constructive help I need: from Scottish_DC-10, Thank You, and all others

Not that jerk n777co!
Easy there. Basically their point is that there is a group that makes LOTS of spelling and grammar mistakes for people your age and where you live (older than 11 years old and living in a country where English is the primary language taught) should not be making. Also, it seems like this wasn't exactly aimed at you but more at jacob (at least he doesn't say "Pitchers" when he wants to say "Pictures", as well as a small error of communication on n777co's part (which does happen to us all from time to time.)
