Re: My french exotic fleet
When I Saw The Title Of The Thread, I Was Expecting Deux Ponts Breguet 763 Provence Or An L-749/10149 Or Something Like That. Now THAT'S EXOTIC!
Not That There's Anything Wrong With Corsair & Air Tahiti Nui, As I Have A Few In My Collection Too But What's So Exotic Abouth Them? Common Aircraft & Airlines The Whole World Knows About.

Nope, that would be Antic, Rick ![]() If you check in a dictionary for exotic, you will find: 1: introduced from another country : not native to the place where found <exotic plants> 2: archaic : foreign , alien 3: strikingly, excitingly, or mysteriously different or unusual <exotic flavors> 4: of or relating to striptease <exotic dancing> Thus the title is very appropriate. |

Exotic May Not Only Be Alien Or Forieign As In From Another Country, But Alien As In Rare Or Unknown. Take An Airline Like Air France Or Lufthansa. Not Really Exotic Because Everyone And Their Uncle Already Heard Of Them Regardless Of Where In The World They Live In.. In Aviation Circles, Corsair & Air Tahiti Nui Are Well Known, However It Takes A Real Enthusiast To Know What A Breguet 763 Is. The 1049 Would Be Better Known But Is Is More Exotic Than An Airbus Or Boeing.

Language is like the law, you don't interpret it, you understand it or not. These company are seving the exotic countries (Tahiti, Nouvelle Calédonie, La Réunion, La Guadeloupe...), thus the term is appropriate. You would know this if you were French since it is a common usage in France to qualify these of exotic. Then if you want to think that you are right and want the last word, that's fine with me. By the way, I would be happy to see the antic aircraft you mentionned being made in 1/400 scale. That would be awsome. Last edited by pgmerle; 09-28-2008 at 08:18 PM. |

Re: My french exotic fleet
In Law Language Sometimes Can Be Subject To Interpretation, Just As You Can't Place Value On Art Because That Too Is Subject To Interpretation.
There Are Many Prime Examples Of Language Interpretations On These Forums. I Often Read A Post Where Several People Interpret The Posting Differently. Take Your Last Statement For Instance. It Appears Adverserial, Prolly Because You Interpreted My Post As Adverserial. (Which Is Not My Intent) The Word Exotic Goes Far Beyond The Definition You Find In The Dictionary. Antiques Are Also Exotic, Because Of Many Reasons. Few Available For Demand. As Time P*****, General Interest In The M***** Weins And Gives Way To The Newest Pop Culture Thing, So The Antique Can Be Interpreted As Exotic As Decades Go By And A Niche Interest Is Created By Enthusiasts. The 1049 May Have Been Plenty At One Time, But Try Spotting One At Any International Airport. A Rare Aircraft With A Long Gone Livery Is My Interpretation Of Exotic.

Re: My french exotic fleet
Rick, you are right on one point: Legislatures make laws, courts interpret them. That is their job.
I was wrong on this. Then according to the definition, a Breguet is exotic to you but not to a French native, even though it is now an antic and that there are very little chance to see one around. |

I'm Surprised You Don't Find The Breguet Exotic. Mainly Because So Few Were Made,Very UNIQUE In Appearance And Design, Airlines Did Not Order Them & Passengers (And Many Aviation Enthusiasts Never Even Heard Of Them) But as You Say, To You It's Not Exotic And That's Fair Enough. Oh Tahiti & Guadeloupe Are Without Doubt Exotic Places.
