Also, did these planes ever carry the name of the country (I can't find any pictures that suggest they did)? I found some aircraft had it (such as CIVC) but others didn't, so I'm not entirely sure how BA implemented these.

(Apologies if I've posted in the wrong place!)
The name of the county and/or the Artist name was a very hit and miss affair - some had the full monty others one or the other - and of course as they were repainted if a bit was weathered more than the rest of the hull/tail so it would change in appearance. Some of the smaller aircraft were flying around with different tail plane tabs. Some of the earlier Gemini and Herpa were not particularly accurate as well but it is an enormous field to dip into so welcome and enjoy!

Thanks,it is totally addictive..and expensive!!...Beware!!
As far as the CIVN tail is concerned, I know this sounds silly but many of the Utopia tails that were the same could look different. This was mainly due to different pieces of the same artwork being used. The Delftblue Daybreak Netherlands and Ndebele South African tails are two very good examples of this.
Hugo is the expert though regarding these tails and it seems GJ were not that accurate on the World Tails on these earlier releases. His custom Utopias are far more accurate.
There were numerous different tails, versions and reg of all the Utopia aircraft and it's a huge project if you want to truly get involved with it...but highly enjoyable and aesthetic!! Wait until you see them all lined up and you will just want more!!!
If you are thinking of collecting the Utopia fleets you will definitely need those custom releases and i would highly recommend contacting Hugo..The Utopia Guernsey Guru!!!

Re: My BA Collection

I've got to echo Gary's sentiments. They really are wonderful to display and gaze at. I've only kept a few airlines in my 1:500 fleet and BA's utopia fleet is one of them. It also includes some of Hugo's brilliant work. My main collection is 1:400 Australian models but I have to confess I have got the GJ B747's with the Wunala and Nalanji tails - too beautiful not to have and I can rationalize them as being a little bit Australian, can't I??

HOW MUCH!!!
I'm sorry to say but you have paid WAY too much for one of the Utopia 777's.
Only done a quick search but this model "Benyhone" i found on Ebay straight away for £12.95 plus £3.75 postage - total £16.70 - I am sure you could probaby find cheaper if you hunted around but that is still a saving of £8.29 without even trying - 50% of another model!! Is that without postage as well?
You do have to shop around for the Utopias (As i suppose you do any model), that's a crazy price

Thanks for the replies (sorry Hugo, haven't worked out how to quote more than one post yet). I'd love to get different variations of the world tails - especially Delftblue Daybreak - but having just spent close to $600 on 12 of these (and on a student's salary too!) I get the feeling my parents would kill me if I purchased any more!

Yes , Yes , Yes , Yes , Yes , oh Yes .
My main direction with my collection is and has been Cathay and Kai Tak related........however I once bumped into a guy named Gary on this forum. This guy could sell ice to Eskimos....
There I was.....like a lost child. One by one I was taken under a spell that has led me down a path of many emotions. The joy...the struggle ...the reward...and the cost..( sometimes).

Beware my friends, for the journey you are about to undertake may take you down many dark roads that you have only ever read about......he,he,he.
No fear, Gary and Chard are there to see you safely to your final destination......
( HI BOYS...)...they're BACK...

P.S Will soon be contacting the guru Hugo himself....more trouble ahead I fear.

As you rightly say ZC will be the normal white tail with no HK lettering. the GJ released IT was of course the HK pink.

My Dearest Gary,
that is the upside to the expenditure....

Forget the shoes ,coats, handbags and holidays. It's basic clothing we're talking about.
A towel is all that's required....

One word of caution.... Make sure gentlemen that she's not in the relationship JUST for your 'World Tail' collection.

Re: My BA Collection

I've also decided to BA fleet build except i'm going to ignore the world tails an concentrate on the Union Jack and Landor BEA and BOAC schemes. The world tails are just too much hassle. And besides i dont have space!Saying that i dont have enough space as it is!
