Re: My BA Collection

Hey Gary - I'm late to the party on this one, but that is a truly outstanding collection and nicely displayed also.

Do you collect all makes? One of the manufacturers that doesn't get much airplay on these forums is Corgi who are releasing 2 pretty interesting models that might be up your (and Silverbird's) alley.

The first is AA37004 : Vickers VC-10 - B.O.A.C. G-ARVA, 1964 in 1:144.

G-ARVA was the first production VC-10 and the first of twelve to enter service with BOAC. It is rendered in the delivery colours that it was delivered to Heathrow in on 8th December 1964. It was changed to the more recognised blue and gold livery in 1965 and perished just 2 months after it was sold to Nigeria Airways in 1969.

The other, due out later this year, is AA36903: a Junkers JU-52 3/M, British Airways, Gatwick Airport, London 1936 in 1:72 scale.

Interesting to see a Ju-52 in British Airways colours just before the outbreak of WWII. Of course, BA then was really British Airways Ltd - a private airline company of the 1930s. It was first formed as Allied British Airways in October 1935 by the merger of Spartan Air Lines and United Airways (no relation to the US carrier United Airlines) but became British Airways Ltd. when it acquired Hillmans Airways. Operating out of Gatwick airport, it operated 3 Ju-52's.

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs - it just looks like you would be the man who would be interested. Thanks again for sharing that outstanding collection!

Thanks for the heads up Doc, and the kind words for the collection.
I don't really collect anything outside 1/400 scale apart from the Chinooks from Corgi in 1/72 as you have seen.
It was a case of not having any choice with the helicopters as i haven't seen the Chinook done in any other scale (and they would be pretty small in 400 anyway) - plus the fact in my opinion these Chinooks are a lovely model and look great!!
Having only 6 in the fleet they can and will be displayed seperately but fill an important hole in the BA fleet line up for me.
The two mentioned releases coming from Corgi do look crackers as well but i dare not move into all scales for BA and related airlines otherwise i will be looking at a new house just for displaying!!!

Hi Gary,
been out of the loop the last few days and catching up on your thread...
The Poland always comes up a treat and she looks great. Speaking about moving house if you went into other scales, where the heck are you sleeping at the moment.
I hope for your collections sake your not taking up any of THEIR space...

Good to see you around again Colin!!
Fortunately enough working away i don't have to worry about sleeping there!!
Over the next few weeks i am having a fitted cabinet made specially to fit one whole wall that will be dust free and probably hold up to 800 models - this will ensure that the complete fleet including all customs made and to be made will fit and be displayed properly

Hi there Gary,
800 models ....nice work. Am having a day off, so doing what one does best. Drinking good beer and watching a Van Halen DVD. BOAC 707 Aeroclassics should be on one's doorstep soon so will drop you a line on arrival.
Please drop some pics when you get the new setup. Sounds great...

Sounds good Colin - Also got a day off here in Moscow and trying to liase with family on Skype back in the UK to organise all the parcels arriving - BA Chinooks and some more customs arrived today!!
You will love the BOAC 707 when it arrives, one of my favs!!
The set up should be completed at the beginning of September when i am next back and then i can spend at least 2 days unpacking models and doing the display. Will post complete new fleet pictures when its all done - in the mean time i'll keep you informed of the A380 fleet as and when there are new arrivals!!

I told Radek at Aviation Retail Direrct- Heathrow about your collection.

By the way, what's the weather like in Moscow?

Scorching hot - over 30 today - Moscow summers are very hot - and entertaining!!

Another addition will be joining the fleet soon in the shape of the Chatham "Poppy" Concorde G-BOAF
This will be an excellent custom on a unique 1:400 mould specially made (Not GJ / Herpa etc)
This did actually fly and carried this livery for only one day!!
I think that you will agree this is far more accurate than the released moulds and will complete the Concorde line up!!

Enjoy!!

That's a nice start with the Colum Ireland tail - although i think the white Colum version looks better personally - but was never done on a regular release.
There's no such thing as a small world tails collection!! Once you get the bug you will want to add more and more!!
The 777's and 747's are nice though, the 737's from GJ and AV400 are readily available still and a reasonable price, so you may want to add some of them first.
You will find the rest of the Utopia 747's a bit pricey, especially the Big Birds, if you can find them.
Good luck on your World Tail journey - i am sure you will enjoy

Re: My BA Collection

Fantastic collection - you've inspired me to start a collection of my own (I never realised it would be so addictive!)

I was lucky enough to pick up five of the early Gemini 744s (Benyhone, Rendezvous, Delftblue, Koguty and Ndebele) and was wondering if Gemini got the pattern on G-CIVN incorrect (judging from the pictures I found of the actual aircraft)?

Also, did these planes ever carry the name of the country (I can't find any pictures that suggest they did)? I found some aircraft had it (such as CIVC) but others didn't, so I'm not entirely sure how BA implemented these.

(Apologies if I've posted in the wrong place!)
