Just got a inflight Pan Am 747-100, IF741007, the noise wheel came off on arrival...
Hi guys.. I spend almost $200 to buy this model... the noise wheel came off when arrival... I got it from Diecast Airplanes: Diecast Airplane and Aircraft Models. Your collectible aviation source for Corgi, GeminiJets, Model Power, Dragon Wings, Century Wings, Realtoy, Motormax, Hogan Wings, Skymarks, Herpa, Jet X, InAir, and Franklin Mint Armour I called them... the guy said is normal... Does anyone here have this model? I have a Inflight 747-400.. and the noise wheel will turn.. but won't come off...
Here is the picture for it...

Hello, I have this problem with the Pan Am Cargo I bought some time ago. The dealer sent a spare wheel set and as I tried to change it the wheel unit snapped off the plate that fits in the hole. Am still trying to figure out how to change it.

That is what the dealer offer me also... He said, either he give me a spare landing gear or give me a $10 for my next purchase... I kind of knew it going to be really hard to pull it out... so I just take the $10...
I glue the front wheel back on... no body notices it was glue back on... it just won't turn now... oh well... most of my model's noise wheels doesn't turn anyway.... It is better like that then trying to change the gear and f#ck it up even more... |

I had the same problem with my PA Cargo,(cunningly)i used a small piece of blu tak so the nosegear still turns...The only thing is when it dries out you have to replace it....

Changing the front gear is actually easy...did it myself. I had to pull on the gear more than I thought, but it all came out in one piece and I was able to install the replacement gear. I followed these instructions from backfire at 400SH. Read through it and if you feel comfortable enough to try it then give it a go.

Er, quick question...? Should this really be happening at $200 a pop. Sounds like you guys have the patience of a saint. Personally I'd be livid! Did the retailer not offer an exchange or refund? $10 off your next model sounds a bit lame.

It going to cost me $40 to send back... and it isn't that bad... if it turns will be nice.. Now I super glue it on... I put inside a glass case.... it doesn't look bad at all.. who will notices... I only have 3 airplane inside my case that the noise wheels will turn... and I usually position the noise wheel straight anyway...

If you use superglue - only a little and keep it out of the case and its box for a good 48 hrs as enclosed the fumes from the glue can damage the surrounding paintwork.

I am good... I put a drop of super glue on paper first.. them just pick up my landing gear and touch a little of it on the paper...... I just need it to hold on the gear so it won't fell out when I pick up the plane... This is the 3rd day... no damage on the paint at all... It is all good... :c)

Hi Clement, you may have talked to me. I'm not sure I said this was normal, but it isn't all that uncommon for nose gear to break or fall out from inFlight models. We also see models from inFlight with missing antennas. Sometimes I feel like their QC is lacking, but that is why we keep a full compliment of spare gear and antennas on hand.

Re: Just got a inflight Pan Am 747-100, IF741007, the noise wheel came off on arrival
Just super glue the wheel back on.....
No need to make this into an international incident. Employ some modeling skills; get a tooth-pick, a 3X5 note card and some thick super-glue. CAREFULLY with the tooth-pick dab it into the superglue, getting just a small drop on the tip. Dab this on the axle and GENTLY press the wheel back on from where it broke off. DON'T TOUCH IT FOR 30 MINUTES. VOILA! Hey Gang! This works for broken antenna's as well and even a horizontal stabilizer if your careful. No need to go pestering model makers or distributors for something so minute, which can be fixed in less that 15 minutes with a little patience! I can't tell how many models I have fixed that show up from UPS/USPS/FedEx/etc where something breaks off during shipping. Last edited by silverbird707; 05-10-2010 at 06:41 PM. |
