Upscaling into the world of 200
Hi All,
My first post in a 200 scale forum. I'm no stranger to the 400 scale collectorate but I've recently received my first 1:200 B747 and thought I'd share. Firstly I'd like to thank Sal (backfire) for pointing me in the right direction for purchasing this model and Paul (EXPO) for a great deal and smooth transaction sending this model from the UK to Australia safely and quickly. I had toyed with the idea of going 200 for a little while and whilst I'm drastically downsizing my 400 scale collection I found a way to make 200 scale work by representing 'iconic flights' in this scale. So, my first 200 scale model is the Inflight 200 Cathay Pacific B747-400 B-HUI in the livery it wore circa 1997. In 1997 my father and I took a trip from Australia to England via Hong Kong, where three out of the four flights were aboard B744's in the 'old' livery. Cathay were only just introducing the current livery at that time and this was the last opportunity to transit through Kai Tak! I've not been back to Hong Kong since so I have never experienced Chek Lap Kok. Anyway, I figured this aircraft represents that trip, and in some way also represents the flight our family took from the UK to Australia in 1990 (although I'm guessing that CX B744 would've had the green stripes on the engines and a VR- registration). I still have a photo of my father standing in front of one of these B744's on the apron at Sydney after our return. That particular leg from Hong Kong to Sydney wasn't particularly full so we each had a row of three seats to ourselves in economy class ![]() Anyway, I am most impressed with this model and the level of detail so I took some photos to share ![]() My aim is to keep my step up to 1:200 in check and not spend too big as I've done in the past with 400 scale. I would be real happy if someone released a Qantas B747-300 in 200 scale though. That would also qualify for an 'iconic flight'! Cheers, Dan |

Re: Upscaling into the world of 200
Oh Dan! Now you've done it!!!!
These babies are very nice, aren't they? It's a good job you've got strict collecting criteria. A QF B743 would indeed be a nice addition, especially if InFlight return to their beautiful original shiny silver - those engine nacelles just wouldn't look right if you couldn't see your reflection in them. And I'm sure you have fond memories of that iconic flight to Perth with the GF too! ![]() The 1:200 glut I've now got has been the biggest threat to my storage space over the last 12 months. Look out!

Re: Upscaling into the world of 200
Bahahahah yeah I know Doc
It took a little bit to convince me to come across to 200 but it's such a stunning model how could I pass it up?I'll be good. I doubt I'll be diving in like I did with 400 scale, but I would love the QF B743, particularly any of the last few that were in service as I got to fly on those (EBV, EBW, EBY) on my trans-con trips SYD-PER - I think it's all the more special if the model depicts a plane you actually flew on ![]() The CX has stayed in its box for the mostpart since getting it, hoping it will get a nice display area at the new place in the new year...
