no my friend, they were used for domestic routes (if I'm not mistaken)...I think they were Gatwick based aircrafts which would do European short haul and UK Domestic sectors.

@SpeedBird 48, its really sad when the once workhorse of the BA Domestic network from Terminal 1 (before BA shifted to Terminal 4 and now Terminal 5) have been retired.

But, on the bright side, I read somewhere that G-BNLF (which was due retirement last September i.e. September 2014) is scheduled to continue till Feb 2016!!!

...and British Airways charter activity, like Salzburg.
Very sad news, the B737-400 was a workhorse for the airline and beautiful in BA livery.

Re: British AIrways 737 retirement

Very sad that they did not do as well as they did with the 757! How long did they even have the 757? I remember back in 2009 I was at the stage in my life where I go to random airlines websites to check out their fleet and I never saw the 757 in BAWs!

The 757 was painted in a retro (Negus) scheme before being retired!

They should have done a Landor or a world tail for the 737 400!

Re: British AIrways 737 retirement

To the idiot who said this: https://twitter.com/studentpilotmat/...67974255198209

You do realize that BAs new A320s will be possibly LESS comfortable then the 737s? Oh, and their used, so that means that they are "old". I am sorry, but I hate people with this consumerist attitude, those planes had at least 3 years left in them, and if ba had the need maybe even 8 years! (not a smart idea though) When something becomes "old" we should not bin it and get the latest and greatest. See if you NEED the "new" before getting rid of the "old"and if you do need to replace the old then treat it with respect. I know its only a plane, but I get emotional on things like this. WOuld someone with a twitter tell that guy what I said?

Re: British AIrways 737 retirement

It's a shame, but every dog has his day I guess. Time for BA - as a national flag carrier - to at least appear to be updating and upgrading, even if that is not the case.

I wonder which model BA will use for its charter/leisure activity (like Salzburg, for example), maybe the A321?

Re: British AIrways 737 retirement

So, Farewell old Smoker, was nice to have you in the BA Fleet ! We will miss you !

And "Kids", some of us old Farts have even flown the BA 737.
Was first flight in my life, Landor 737-200 ! Boy, what a noise and what a Feeling !

And you know what ? As Lufthansa retires their 737 also pretty soon, I now arrange all my Business trips by myself and not by our secretary. So, have managed to fly the 737-300 and even the 737-500 numerous times in the past weeks.

Next week shall be 733 again from STR to FRA !

Did the same 2 years ago with SAS MD80 and this year with Blue1 717.
