Aer Lingus to lease 757??

Rumour control over here is that Aer Lingus are going to lease 3 x 757's to cover routes that demand has dropped for and an A330 is no longer necessary

Would look great

Cool news! It looks nice, if they get it. I hope they produce one in 1:400

Re: Aer Lingus to lease 757??

Why?
The B757 must be much more expensive to operate than the A330.

The B757-200 seats around 225 people. Almost the same as the same the much more economical A321 with 220. So why?

There must be a saving in using the 757 over the 330 to justify it. I'll keep you posted if/when more info appears

Re: Aer Lingus to lease 757??

A 757 has smaller engines and thus burns less fuel than the A330 for sure. It requires less crew and the turnaround time is less than the A330. It can therefore be serving more frequencies gradually then the A330 on a route. Just because a plane is old does not necessarily mean that everything on the newer plane is better than the older one. Long live the 757!!
Their certainly enjoying old age with a lot of carriers since the Blended Winglets.
Great news if true and looks good in EI colours.

Re: Aer Lingus to lease 757??

I will bet that the B757s are probably ETOPS. So forget the A-321s.

Current A321s have no where near the range of 757s for ETOPS operations, and as mentioned above, are A321s even ETOPS certified? They probably could be, just like with the A318, but payload would take a penalty.

Re: Aer Lingus to lease 757??

Latest I read on another forum

The rumours I've read elsewhere seem to believe EI will lease 3 ex Finnair 757s via ALC for 4 years to operate Shannon summer services etc, enabling EI to utilise it A330s on other routes. Also the 757s may allow EI to expand TA services including new routes! The 757s will give an indication of how an A321NEO might perform in future on some of the "thinner" TA routes. All speculation and conjecture, of course, but I love to see it happen! Could an A321NEO do BHD to JFK? I know an EI B735 did a charter from Derry to Boston many years ago!

It's not quite what i was hoping for, but... Well, i don't like it really. I would have much prefered the full livery.
