Re: Sun Country to London?

What Airport then?, Gatwick? They will need to use a ETOPS 737.

Re: Sun Country to London?

As "spacious" as SY B738s are, I probably would go nuts on a flight that long. I flew MSP-SXM-MSP on SY and thought the 6 hour flight was just on the edge of how long to be on an aircraft that small.

But in all seriousness, looks like this isn't going to be London, ENGLAND; not unless those old DC-10-10s are recommissioned.

Re: Sun Country to London?

That would be rather awesome to have those old DC-10's recommissioned in the current Sun Country livery.

Wow they are really using a 737 for a transatlantic flight, does anyone know of another airline that operated 737s for transaltantic flights?

Not the first time that has happened. Back in the day, they also used to do transatlantic flights in the Boeing 727. There are also a few flights that are flown by 737s and A319s in an all Business Class layout as well I should add. I think Privatair was known to fly them.

Wardair used its 721 on reg transatlantic flights in the late 60's from Western Canada refueling in Keflavík. Royal and Sterling also operated transatlantic flights with the 722 refueling in Keflavík. I think the modern 737 NGs could make it across, the thing that truely blocked most carriers from flying 737s on such long routes was largely due to 2 factors, 1) most of the time they would have to travel under a restricted payload thus sacrificing some of the economics, and 2) the ETOPS rating, this would have likely required the aircraft to fly a longer route than needed.

Privatair flies AMS-IAH on a 737. I think its a good move by Sun Country.. it gives pax alternatives to the usual NWA.

1) If you use a all business configurated 737 you don't have these problems. Sun Country makes a fuel stop in Gander/Canada.
2) I guess they don't have much ETOPS problems if they fly over the atlantic and use a northern route over Canada/Greenland/Iceland/UK

I flew out to toronto on one of their 757's luckilyI managed to get an upgrade, but the aircraft was rubbish, was supposed to be direct from London Stansted but stopped in Newcastle with no word about going there. Thankfully I flew back on BA
