Question Lufthansa In Flight Entertainment

Hey, guys. We went to India this summer, and we, as usual, went through Lufthansa. Usually, we don't get personal TV in front of our seats, but we were pleasantly surprised to have them on the FRA-MAA route, on a A340-600. But on the IAD-FRA route, an A340-300, we didn't have, nor coming back on the FRA-IAD route , a 747-400. I think I researched it- and I found out somewhere that they installed it on all their A330s, and some of A340s(I'm guessing so far only the 600 models). Can someone help me with this? Are they still going to install them? Hopefully some of you know about this. Thanks!

Yes, the personal videos are going to be on all new planes and all A340s. B747 should also get them but thats a retrofit and will take time

Re: Lufthansa In Flight Entertainment

This website has a list of all their A330's/A340's and lists whether it has a Ptv or not.
Übersichtstabelle LH PTV A333+A346+A343 - MUC Forum
The 747's are not getting them for now, the A340-300s should be done by summer and the A340-600s are done. Hope this helps

Correct all A346's and A333's have been functional since spring of 08'. I recently flew a Lufthansa flight from Dulles to Munich on an A343 which did have IFE installed. They should be finished soon and the 744's I dont think will recieve them since they will begin to phase out those aircraft as their A380 orders arrive

Very very bad service on their economic class, and without them (on the 747) its kind of very low class. Its a shame because otherways I love lufthansa... a 12 hours flight without them, nowdays its very boring. They really need to do something for that!

I wonder what are they going to use when the 747's are gone in a route like Frankfurt-Mexico. I fly very often this route but when I do it with lufthansa economy class, its not such a pleassure...

I don't know if this is a good idea to give each seat an entertaining system....I know it is fun for passenger, but it can create problems too... remember the SWISSAIR MD11 crash near Halifax, where the enertaining system used huge amount of electricity and at the end was a cause of the fire on board..........

I know some people might say, entertaining systems are today better and more stable, but with all the wires and cables, I rather to reduce the entertaining and focus more on safety... but I know most passengers more care about the food and entertaining than safety

My opinion is more that it has to do with weight reduction than safety. Lufty is an interesting example as they do have some with PTVs in every seat, and they have some without.

Another thing that lead to SR111 flight crashing I should add was that the insulation on board the plane that was supposed to be fireproof was actually a whole lot more flammable than originally thought, thus worsening the situation. Had the insulation blankets not been as flammable as the ones used at that time, it could have been able to get to crew to make a safe landing at Halifax without crucial instruments being cut off.

Hey, model plane manufactures, how about some Braniff PZL 230Fs.

Re: Lufthansa In Flight Entertainment

A lot of airlines have 747īs with no PTV installed as these aircraft are probably too old and are soon to be phased out. For example KLMīs 747 also have no PTV.

But even with PTV itīs sometimes weird...I once flew on a LH 340-600 from SFO to MUC and although the PTV itself is fine, the actual hardware is installed under the seats in economy class and for a tall guy like me, it steals a lot of leg space and thatīs quite uncomfortable...

But I wonder why KLM equipped their MD11 with PTV and not the 747!

Nope, none of the 747's have PTV's in economy. They do in Business and First.

I couldn't agree more. The A346's were delived w/o PTV so they were installed later to unfortunate results. I flew a LH A346 from San Francisco to Munich (and back) in January 2009 and I couldn't help but think, "What kind of moron thought this idea up?" I mean really - you're going to eliminate 1/2 of the leg room space under FOUR seats in every row on a long-haul aircraft? Stupid! I knew, ahead of time that these boxes took up 1/2 of the room under the window seats, but was surprised to find they were also under the D seats (F seats have them too) when I flew back. I was awful. The A346 in general is so uncomfortable (I love Airbus - but Boeing does comfort better), but with losing 1/2 your leg room on an 11 hour flight. Awful.

I use seatguru.com every time I fly and reported my LH A346 experience to them.

Next time, I will be taking the 744 through Frankfurt instead.

Does anyone know if Boeing 747-400 has in-seat entertainment in economy class in Lufthansa?
