Nice article and a concise history. A few small errors here and there; Pan Am's Clippers of the 19030's could not land on standard runways - they were flying boats!

The guy who wrote this is supposed to be some sort of airline expert?! Sounds to me like this guy did very little research, other than reading wikipedia. The comments about TWA and Piedmont are especially galling. TWA had tons of domestic routes for decades, not just some afterthought in the '90's. And Piedmont stayed away from big airports? Like LAX, SFO, LAS, DEN, ORD, BOS, LGA, JFK, EWR, MIA, DFW, MCO, ATL, DCA? Give me a break! PI was a great airline, with a great rep with their customers, and they merged with a carrier that was exactly the opposite.
