NAIA Terminal 3
I heard that NAIA Terminal 3 will be opening this July. Domestic operations will commence on July 21. I hope international services will open soon. Do you have any other news regarding its opening?

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
cebupathetic, airphils and PALexpress will move in. mainline PAL will not move for the mean time and will only observe. it will decide later on if it wants to abandon the centennial terminal. if it decides so, then the whole of PAL, domestic and international will migrate to T3.
if that happens, the allied foreign carriers at T1 will not all fit in T3. T3 only has 18 jetways, 4 of which are for small planes only. i don't know how the government plans to split them, and whether the leandro locsin T1 will be demoslished, and what will happen to centennial, and whether they would still need to build that budget terminal. all will depend on PAL's decision to transfer which in turn will depend on whether operations will be smooth in the coming months.

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
you might find this post interesting, it has pics:
PinoyExchange - View Single Post - Airlines Of The World II i got it from another message board. this commercial flight carried GMA from SFO. looks nice, until you realize it has NO airconditioning, yet. dunno how they made the carousels spin - IIRC, they also reported the baggage claim motors weren't working, too.

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
I arrive in MNL in 2003 and left in mid 2006. During this period of three and a half year it opened or nearly opened many a times. Some airlines were also alloted space and made arrangements to design their offices. But nothing happened. I also remember before a soft opening with 5J, they put up a sham of roof collapse and deferred the opening.
Of course, PR has no reason to move from Centennial to T3 - what could motivate them to move from fully dedicated terminal to share their space with others. NAIA3 is doomed to stay closed |

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
I recently started a thread concerning NAIA 3's opening here:
http://www.wings900.com/vb/1-1-civil...tic-first.html Hopefully the July 13 or 21 whatever it may be opening will push through. Sick and tired of NAIA I and II. And NAIA III looks like a really nice terminal.

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
Thanks for the info!
![]() I thought it was the first international passenger service. ![]() I'll be on a business trip to Tokyo, and I'll be arriving on July 25. I was hoping that international carriers can use NAIA 3 at that time, but as usual, it will still be delayed. Quote:

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
Quote:
1) lack of expansion at centennial - it only has 7 domestic gates, only two of which can accommodate widebodies; and 5 international gates. take note that airphils and PAL express now share the terminal. have you ever experienced T2 at peak hours? zoo is an understatement. > several flights are parked at remote gates > immigration arrival lines stretch from the counters all the way to the arrival gate (and i am not exaggerating). > immigration departure lines at both (!) ends of the terminal could barely handle the semi-peak morning hours with several departures a few minutes delayed due to held up passengers. > there are only TWO (!!!) carousels for baggage claim. at 4AM, expect the arrival of the flights from SFO, LAX, LAS/YVR, SYD/MEL, ICN, and sometimes the overflow flight from LAX/SFO. yes, only TWO carousels. took me two hours from gate to customs the moment i deplaned from my SFO flight. spent most of it queueing at immigrations and at baggage relcaim, while sweating.and i am not going to enumerate the flights that leave at lunchtime - the super peak hours! and oh, they will be adding six 77Ws in the coming three years, btw. 2) connectivity with other carriers - both the domestic and international of PAL will migrate together; they have code-shares with EK, EY, GF, QR, BI, MH, and soon KL*. currently, there is a courtesy shuttle operating between T1 and centennial. *yes, PR is negotiating a codeshare with MNL's lone european carrier, as a stepping stone to start their own ops to euroland. 3) having both domestic and international ops, affiliate airphils, subsidiary PALexpress, plus codeshare partners, then T3 would have become their new exclusive terminal, only bigger. what could scare them... 1) lack of facilities (the gov't is still sourcing aircons, tv monitors, and all the basic airport equipment) 2) crumbling terminal. some of the jetways are propped up yet never been used! some ceiling panels are collapsing.

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
GMANews.TV - NAIA-3 to finally open later this month - Nation - Official Website of GMA News and Public Affairs - Latest Philippine News - BETA
OK guys, it's official ! NAIA 3 will officially open. No more delays. July 22, 2008. Considering they're gonna open it already, I'm guessing they were able to or currently fixing all the problems like the aircon, the electronics, and the jetways. And according to a news show (on ANC), NAIA 3 will be a mall-like airport, which sounds promising since NAIAs 1 and 2 will keep you bored to death.

Re: NAIA Terminal 3
okay, just so the aviation people outside the philippines know...terminal 3 has opened!
here is a news report about the opening, some of the legal hurdles it faced and what may lie ahead: ABS-CBN News Online (Beta) fair use excerpt: ... After six years of non-use, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (Naia 3) would not have opened partially if the two local airlines did not take some risks. Cebu Pacific Air commenced operations in Naia 3 on July 22 with five domestic flights, and Philippine Airlines (PAL), which controls domestic carriers, PAL Express and Air Philippines will kick off departures and arrivals at Naia 3 in a few days ... The Naia 3 terminal went through three administrations, required thousands of hours of technical negotiations on the terminal building's repair and remediation, involved over 60 resolved and ongoing court cases filed here and abroad, endangered or lost lives of at least three people who were involved in some of the legal proceedings, and two botched soft openings. Hopefully, the euphoria among those who pushed for Naia 3's commercial opening will make sure the lessons are learned from what was an ill-fated privatization project.
