NAIA 3 to open with domestic first

Untitled Document

Sun.Star Manila - Naia Terminal 3 to be opened soon

For all those who have already and are in the Philippines, I bet you've at least once passed through Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) whether Terminal 1 or the Domestic Terminal and swore at least once while going through those two small, dilapidated terminals with all it's security checks and all. I know I have. Well, here's a sigh of relief for some of us, NAIA Terminal 3 will FINALLY open in a few months, this time it's official, to domestic flights first though, of Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines. After the domestic flights turn out to be a success, they will be slowly adding the international carriers as well.

Re: NAIA 3 to open with domestic first

This white elephant has since been operating domestic and international flights for CebuPacific for around a year. It also houses the domestic flights of the two PAL affiliates, Air Philippines and PALexpress.

International carriers are slated to move in:
The Exciting World of Philippine Aviation: Cathay leads Terminal 3 Transfer

CX, KE, SQ and TG.

Thanks for posting, but for some reason the link you provided isn't working.

And I found another link:
4 more carriers moving to Naia 3

But it doesn't state the four airlines posted.

Re: NAIA 3 to open with domestic first

It is amazing - this NAIA 3. When I came to Phils in 2003, it was already ready and good to operate the International flights. I left Phils in 2006 - same story. Now it is 2009 and 6 years on the same confusion and chaos as in 2003. The terminal was NOT rpt NOT designed for Domestic but for international operations. PAL was supposed to continue to stay from the Centennial Terminal - It is brand new, nice and was actually supposed to be later convered to Domestic......
The saga goes on.....

Not working? It's working just fine when I clicked my link...

I don't want to copy and past the whole article so I'll be posting some of the key quotes:
> Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways will lead international airlines to Terminal 3 by middle of this year.
> Coming in tow are Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, and Thai Airways whose international flights caused congestion at the Terminal 1 during peak hours. All of them also operated multiple flights.
> Emirates intend to fly the bi-class Airbus 380 early next year.
> Two more foreign airlines, one from Europe and the other from the middle east, are also expected to fly out of Manila Terminal 1 this year if their plans push through.
> ...a monorail would be constructed next year to link first Terminal 1 and 2, then Terminal 3.
> By 2014, the Terminal 2 annex will be constructed together with the monorail extension to Terminal 3 to accommodate future international flights of Philippine Airlines.

PAL still has no intention of transferring to T3 and in fact, a T2 annex will be built, as mentioned above.

I'm not sure how much the authorities have been able to "renovate" at T3, but when several friends of mine took some CebuPac flights some months ago, only one of the three domestic jetways were operational. There are very few seats at the gate areas and most walls are still covered with tarpaulin as panels have not yet been put in place.

[Sigh] Mabuhay and Welcome to Manila.

Hmm, all of these sound good, especially the monorail, although far fetched. I'm excited to see the A380 if Emirates does decide to push through with the plan. I wish PAL would move too, T2 is starting to bore me.

Off-topic, but another good plan but totally out of our current government's reach is that "Master Plan" for Clark. When and if that pushes through, that will be the day.

Quite an ambitous lot! To think they could not even get the terminal fully operational!

There's actually a bunch of freaks who want to make a megahub in Taguig, I think somewhere in Laguna de Bay. Yeah, right! They can't even complete a frikkin terminal (T3)!

I believe Clark has become a thorny issue, being preferred by the current leadership and sacrificing other economic zones (i.e., FedEx went FedUp and PackedUp). Etc.

Laguna de Bay? I'm just gonna laugh at that.

Yeah, I read about Subic, really sad, I loved going there just to see the FedEx planes, sadly I won't be able to see them anymore.

Anyway, back to the topic. Have you been to NAIA 3? Because I wonder if there is good retail space there, like the SkyMart at Chek Lap Kok.

I've been inside NAIA 3 last month and I haven't seen a big retail space there, as far as I can remember, there were small food stores close to some gates, the other stall spaces were still empty (more than half of them), the walkways/footpath were very close to the boarding gates, and the boarding area was not spacious enough. I have to stand on one corner and wait for boarding because all seats were occupied. That time I will be onboard with an A320 on a Monday mid day. There was alot of work going on around the teminal that day. On the other hand I was impressed with their check-in area...very spacious and very clean, the setup was similar to Terminal 1 in NRT and Terminal 4 of LHR. The baggage claim area and the Immigation were very spacious too....for some reason we have to walk in the tarmac on our arrival to go to the terminal building. They still have to sort the traffic flow for the arriving passengers because this will surely annoy the disabled passengers on a wheelchair.

Haven't been inside but I've seen many pictures...They still have old tube-type TV screens instead of the standard flat-screen plasma displays.

Ohh. Doesn't sound that bad. Hopefully there would be more stores to open in those empty retail spaces, I can't stand airports without retail, they seem so lifeless. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I've seen some too, and I wonder why MIAA didn't choose to buy LCD displays, I would understand if the terminal was moth-balled since the 90's, but it wasn't.

I agree to that Bounce8, right now I'm still thinking if it's still possible to have a huge, multi-level duty-free shop there just like Chep Lak Kok where you can stroll around while waiting for your flight, or dine-in a spacious restaurant whenever you feel like eating.......I don't think there's a space for that.......hope I'm wrong.......

What puzzles me is how the boarding area will look like if there's 2 or more wide-bodied aircraft parked in a certain wing, with gates next to each other and will board almost at the same time......I bet, boarding will be chaotic.
