Wings900 Unbelievable announcement on British Airways

One of my relatives flew on BA last night between Hong Kong and London/Heathrow in Business Class.

As soon as she boarded, the purser soon announced that the inflight system was not working for the whole plane ( This has effected 2 of my relatives 5 times over the past year on BA). that sometimes happen and i can except that on every airline that sometimes the entertainment may be down, its just bad luck.

Shortly before arrival into London, the Captain comes on to say this completely bizarre and unprofessional announcement:

He came on and said:, that one of the crew had begged him to say this, and that she is a young single attractive blonde women and that if anyone is interested, could they please ask for her number!

This was said after a 12+ hour flight from Hong kong about to arrive at around 6am into london. Is this not the most unproffesional thing you have ever heard? I do not have anything against BA, but this in my opinion was not the right thing to say to a whole 747 load of passengers about to land into London, i think it was unnaceptable, and apparently many passengers were cross that announcements like this were taking place!

Re: Unbelievable announcement on British Airways

I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe. It seems like the sort of thing to be made up to try and impress a load of forum members or just to make an airline look bad. All in my opinion of course.

If your relatives recorded it, then there's proof to your story, but I just find it so hard to be a true story, thats all. Then again, I have alot against BA considering I fly Virgin Atlantic quite a bit and well, i'm sticking up for BA at this point. I have never heard such in all my time flying and being an aviation fan. I know there is alot of professionalism in this part of the industry and that's why I find it so hard to believe someone would risk their career like that.

Re: Unbelievable announcement on British Airways

If your relative was a young single male and not a 'she' would they have still had a problem?

WOW, Life is tough when you have to slum it in business class and listen to inappropriate announcements like that.

Tell your relative my thoughts are with them after their traumatic experience.

I completely agree, and i am sure if someone on that flight writes a letter to complain, there will be some punishment i am sure. i have doubled checked with my (close) relative, to ensure i did not over exagerate the story, and it seems it is correct and what i said really happened!
This was at the end of the flight before landing and the captain said that she had 'begged' him to say something, so perhaps he had cosidered it a while and had ended up saying it!?

Yes, not everyone flies Business, and i personally do not i fly Economy for every flight! I dont think it was a traumatic experience, i think people were a little shocked that the crew felt it was ok to say something like this to passengers, regardless to what class they were in. If i had been on that flight, i would have been amazed if something like that had been said if i was flying, wouldnt you?

No, I would have found it amusing. Maybe is is a British thing. Us Brits do have an odd sense of humour.

You mentioned that they should be punished. What would you suggest?

Re: Unbelievable announcement on British Airways

True or false, only one way to find out if this is true or not, by finding someone who asked for her number on the way out. The way we can call her and find out if she was single, anyone got a snapshot of her, cause maybe we can put it up in the Oh Bugger thread, it just prove how desperate this blonde woman was.

On a serious note, I have never heard such things,
and I'm guessing Mr. Captain "Right" wouldn't approve this even if how much she begged. unless...........

Sorry, i dont think they should be punished but perhaps BA management might think that, i justthink it is unbelievable, and unproffesional, not worth someone being fired over though, unless passengers complain, then maybe Ba would consider it? who knows

I agree, desperate enough to ask the whole plane is pretty desperate, especially if it could risk your career!

Re: Unbelievable announcement on British Airways

To me, it sounds like the pilot was joking. Anything that the flight crew can do to make the flight go faster is fine with me. Take Southwest Airlines for example: they do things like this all the time. And, even if he wasn't joking, it's really not that offensive. Slightly unprofessional, but that's how airlines should be.

Yeh, right....

Anyways, to be honest I have heard crew have a bit of a laugh, it all depends on the interaction of the customers onboard. To be fair, being british I would of laughed and if the bird was hot, I would of got her number....

You could say its unprofessional if you like, but you hear people in all other sorts of trades cracking a joke like this, why can't pilots...

Ramm - I'm sorry, but pilots have a crack mate, and do things all the time, especially long haulers. it makes the time go by when AP is on .

Seriously though, who cares? Maybe he shouldn't have said it, maybe he should. One thing is for sure....he definatley got peoples attention so maybe the girl is now happy

Oh - and if it does turn out to be made up, I can only say that you're a bit sad. Sorry, but why would you? *Confused*
