Re: USAF Tanker row

I like the fact that the USAF official said the Airbus was all round better, yet Americans call for "america deserves the best" in an argument against the airbus, yet it outcl***** the Boeing on all levels....

Sorry, but that is such an american statment.

Glad airbus got it to be honest.

Re: USAF Tanker row

No company should expect a guarenteed monopoly or contract in this day and age. Some of the great things about America are the spirit of competition, meritocracy and free trade. For Boeing to cry foul flies in the face of all these traditions. For those of us outside the USA, it gets a bit tiresome watching the US protest about protectionism of foreign markets it wants to break into but being so parochial about competing on a level playing field where her own industries are concerned.

Re: USAF Tanker row

Ive read some of the public spec's published on the KC-45A, its a fairly solid aircraft and will do its job splendidly. Sure the 767 tanker variant is okay, but the US army is right, the airbus outcl***** it in allmost all areas. The US goverment made a good decision on this hardware.

I really like how so many people get all butthurt when the better product has to be imported.

The US has usualy been the first and the loudest to critsize european military technology. And they do so almost constantly. To see them go around and buy abroad is pretty amusing.

Well, its not the first time. I think in the 80s we bought Harriers from GB, or atleast got the licencing to build them.

I truely hope these have the the same lifespan as the KC-707 tankers.

Re: USAF Tanker row

I don't know whats the problem? The assembling line of the tanker is going to be in Mobile/Alabama not in Europe.

And if everything goes well the A330 freighter will be also produced in the USA.

Re: USAF Tanker row

I'm now opeing a book that Airbus will screw this up and turn a great positive for the company into a PR disaster- 1/4 anyone???

Congrats to Airbus and i look forward to seeing how Boeing bounce back from this

We also had something similar with the USMC and the Harrier. As for this deal, I'm supirsed that the A330 tanker won, not because of the nationalism bullcrap, but rather because I've heard that it's size would require the infrastructure to be updated (I heard the 767 Tanker fit the hangers where the A330 one needed new ones to be built.) Either way, I hope these will serve the USAF quite well and serve as long and reliably as the KC-135 did.

Why? Because as great as they are, the KC-135 is finally starting to see it's days. It no doubt was a great jet, and can still be by upgrades, but many of them are starting to live up to the maximum amount of hours that a airframe can take, and while they can update them again and overhaul the airframes, they probebly found that it would be cheaper just to buy a whole new type based on a "modern" aircraft. In other words, the KC-135 is probebly just too expensive to just keep maintaining and updating all the time perhaps.

We might see "KC-767s" take to the skies, I recall that there are two contracts out there, one for the first batch and nother for the 2nd batch. Boeing could probebly get lucky and win the contract for hte 2nd batch if they become lucky, though it can also still be EADS/Northrup's to win as well.

I hope that Congress will look into whether either plane causes National Security problems with significant elements of the planes being built abroad and only assembled in the U.S.

The United States does not need some country (maybe France) saying no parts for assembly or repair will be shipped to the U.S. because they disagree with some of our foreign policy actions.

Because in 5 years time Airbus are going to convert the spare A380's to supertankers that can refuel 3 A330s at the same time.:idea

"Such an American Statment"..... Stop being such a bigot...You live in London, You're not American. Don't make statements like that. Wouldn't you think England Deserves the Best too?...

AND it is true, America Deserves the Best. And if the best is the Airbus, then so be it. I'd perfer my military flying American Made Aircraft, but if the Airbus out performs the Boeing product, then thats the way it will have to be.

BUT, by the looks of it, the GREAT US Military may be flying American Made Products. Can't beat that.
