BA B777 Short Landing at Heathrow - Airport Closed

Just looking at reports on TV right now that a BA B777 landed short at Heathrow and suffered main gear collapse. The aircraft is sitting right on the threshold in a substantially complete state, though it's on its engine nacelles rather than the gear, and has been doused with foam.

BA report 3 minor injuries after passengers were evacuated via the slides, but otherwise everyone is fine.

Probably worth a look on the BBC News website for more as they have their helicopter up and covering the scene right now.

All flights in and out have been halted, and listening to London ATC right now, everything is being diverted elsewhere...

Yeah this aircraft will be WO! Only 136 passengers onboard and nobody was injured.
It must be the total chaos at LHR with only one runway open.

More chaos for Heathrow and BA. All BA short haul flights have been cancelled. Glad everyone is okay though.

Just read that the aircraft lost all power and had to glide in for a landing. If this is true its an excellent effort by the pilot that everyone walked away.

Jumping to the future-i'll be interested to see if this bird makes it back to the skies.

Lucky everyone got out only with minor injuries! More Chaos for LHR as there are lots of delays to flights as well as cancellations. I wonder when this runway will be re-opened? perhaps tomorrow or the day after? This is sure to put many flights delayed over the next few hours or days at Heathrow.

Re: BA B777 Short Landing at Heathrow - Airport Closed

Apparently pilots report total loss of all power, avionics, hydraulics shortly before touchdown, so they had to effectively glide it in on that short approach.

Testimony to the skill of the flight crew and strength on the aircraft though...

Somthing tells me 50/50 chance. I mean the left wing is completly trashed and the main gear is gone, but it could stand a chance.
