Chicago Midway Airport has had B737's, MD80's, B727's, B757's, B707's and their longest runway is 6500 feet.

Re: BA B777 Short Landing at Heathrow - Airport Closed

Well there have been C-5's, C-17's, C-32's, VC-10's and 742's landed at Aldergrove. Longest runway is 9121 and the other is 6204. If i'm not mistake the C-17's operated on the shorter runway. Could be wrong though.

I got my information from Boeing, if you think about it though the thrust-to-weight ratio is probably better on the A310 than 717, so they could take off and land in shorter distances.

I'm not sure if even boeing is correct. I live right next to the airport where Mcdonnel Douglas and Boeing built these jets. 717s sure didn't have any trouble taking off. The runway at Long Beach is 10,000 feet, and ive seen many large aircraft (744, MD-11, DC-10) take off in about 5 to 7000 feet. A 717 is much smaller and could do it in about 4000 so the saftey requirement is most likley inccorect.

Here is a Midwest 717 at SNA

Well, I have been proven wrong, thanks!
(That's probably one of the most oxymoronical phrases in the world)

i flew in at 4:52 that morning, me and the F/O Raj Kumar were in a major backlog and were 15th for landing 52 mins late. We only had about 14/17 mins fuel left. Maybe that was the problem

British Airways Flight 38 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Other similar events with 777s. I hope they get to the bottom of this...

If you guys really are interested in the knitty gritty, check out PPRUNE.com. This is the Professional Pilots Rumour Network. Every single thing you hear on the news probably stems from this site. You'll find nearly EVERY single aviation incident, be it major or minor listed here.

These guys are real pilots and get a bit grouchy if people ask silly questions, so feel free to post but you have been warned.

Even if you don't post, have a read. You may need to create a logon just to do this, as the General thread currently had 1500 viewing alone!

From what i remember they held us up so much , we had trouble with fuel levels, we landed on the aux. Maybe that bird just ran out. I really think think tha the BAA should build another runway at LHR but one that's fit enough for atleast a 742
