Re: BA B777 Short Landing at Heathrow - Airport Closed

Richard Branson was apparently there when it happened, accompanying the Prime Minister on his trip to China. This accident delayed the departure of their aircraft, so Branson himself was directly affected.

I'm sure he's already been in touch with his publicity department... :-)

In all fairness I wasn't wanting to joke.

I mean, BA, and Virgin Atlantic have always been having ago at each other in one way or another. And I can see this one because, not only does it cause controversy, which can be seen on many of their aircraft slogans, but of course the 747, the A340-600's and the A340-300's are the same size if not longer and they have one of the longest planes in their fleet, so it contains controversy but has a clever twist as to the size of the aircraft in their fleet, which is evident in other VS slogans on other aircraft.

Testimony to the skill of the flight crew and strength on the aircraft though...

I know what you mean, The odds of a modern jet losing all power, avionics and hydraulics just before landing are very low.
I am glad all the passengers and crew made it out without any injuries.

I wish!!

I assume Boeing will be taking a big interest in this especially if it turns out that both engines failed on a plane thats only just under 7 year old.

I am fully aware of the two rivals competing battles. My comment was only a complimentary note to yours. I see your point. However the slogans from VS in my opinion are not that mocking anymore as opposed to how it used to be before against the British Airways. We all know how VS was mocking BA with the 4 engines 4 long haul on their A346, while BA operating the B772. Will this have an affect to VS? Will they come with new mocking slogans, hint: "BA38 incident" Hence my previous comment : VS will always take your "further" than BA".

Correct me if I have misunderstood your point.

Re: BA B777 Short Landing at Heathrow - Airport Closed

well after looking at photos, reading articals, and watching videos on it. It doesn't seem quite right with the fact that the pilot lost all power just that close to the runway. According to eyewitness the planes engines sound fine... just louder because it was so close to the cars. Sad to see such a beautiful plane be distroyed. I am Happy that there were only minor injeries.
