Well our politicians seem pretty good at selling off stuff that wouldn't seem to belong to them and have even started taxing farmers for the rain that falls on their land. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if they started selling off airspace. But a word of warning for any of you prospective buyers; don't buy any at Werribee (there's a sewerage farm there) and I hear there's a bunch of airspace going cheap near Mt Galunggung in Java, Indonesia.

Well lets hope the NIMBYs don't find out, or else Air Traffic will come to a stop for sure.

NIMBY is unfortunately a term I hear all too often. Everytime we attempt to zone property for housing developments or shopping centers we get all the NIMBYs coming out in droves. Ironically, 90% of the time, the product we propose to build is bigger and better than what the NIMBYs currently have. Eventually, cooler heads prevail and we end up striking some sort of compromise with the NIMBYs and obtaining approval either way.

Funny thing about the the airport NIMBYs is that I think some 90-95% of the time, the airport was there WAY before the NIMBY.

Train tracks are the same way. No one wants the train whistle to blow, and then (when the whistle ordinance gets approved) they have the nerve to try blaming the railroad when something gets struck

This is why attorneys are constantly forced to use the legal doctrine known as "coming to the nuisance". In other words, you were fully aware of our presence before you moved to the area, so you are now barred from arguing that we are a nuisance. There was a class action lawsuit down here involving a housing project built next to a landfill. What the hell were those people thinking? Thankfully, the neighbors lost, as these cases are usually decided on zoning trends and the benefit or detriment to the general population. The landfill is by far the tallest elevation in South Florida and surrounded by vacant agricultural land. You want to buy a house downwind from a dump - better get used to the smell.

This exact thing happened just up the road (Broward County) three or four years ago. Sadly there were deaths and injuries involved. These idiotic drivers were totally at fault and they still collected $$ from the lawsuits.

Re: Wahoo pilots quiz time!

NIMBYs are the reason that the last flight from Sydney Airport is 2220 hrs. (Noise curfew) It also means that three 747's touch down almost simultaneously at 0600 in the mornings. The result - long queues getting through customs at the end of a long flight. Add to that having to transfer to the domestic terminal and doing security all over again to fly to onward destinations in Australia and you can see why Sydney is one of my least favorite airports.

Re: Wahoo pilots quiz time!

So now that we have gotten away from the question, let's get back to the question. Someone explain airspace, what types are there and what's the difference between them.

Re: Wahoo pilots quiz time!

Seems to me that A is the 8 miles surrounding and including the Airport up to 1000 feet, B is the area just outside of the Airport and up to 29,000 feet, C I think also goes up to 1000 feet, then G basically covers everything else. Or something like that... (I really ought to look things up before I start posting my poorly remembered ideas )
