Try and recycle the gear. Report problem to ORD tower or Approach. Prepare for a gear-up landing at ORD if necessary.

Try, and bring the gear back up, and the back down. If nothing happens, try and put the gear down manually (if a 421 has that option available).

Then, if you still don't have 3 green's, radio tower and explain the problem, do a fly by the tower for them to see if all 3 are down. Maybe a light out?...

Get ready for a Gear up landing...

Land.

Pay the bill to get it fixed.

Re: Wahoo pilots quiz time!

Good job fellas, that's an answer you're not going to find on google. I guess. That is what happened to me. I did the same thing as you guys had mentioned. All we had was a light out. But we had equipment standing by just in case. Both of youse guys get gold stars.

You depart Marquette, MI in your Cessna 208 Caravan fully loaded in the winter. Marquette's weather is 200 overcast with 3/4 of a mile visibility with snow and blowing snow, winds 360 at 25 knots.

You level off at 8000' on your way to Milwaukee, WI. Usually a hour and a half trip. You had to make South Bend, IN as your alternate because that was the only one available as an alternate. MKE weather is 200 overcast with 1/2 mile snow and blowing snow, winds 030 at 20 knots. Winds off the lake making lots of lake effect. Winds aloft at 9000 are 210 at 50 knots. 12000 220 at 55 knots. 15000 230 at 55 knots.

You have 4 hours fuel on board. At 8000 heading 200 you start getting some mixed moderate ice. Cloud tops at 10,000'.

What do you do?

Wow... um for a simpler answer, I would say either turn back, or go to the alternate. 1/2 mile vis and icing isn't very welcome. Although I'm pretty sure the C208 has de-icing boots..?

Alright, I should have put this in there, you are over Marinette, WI (About a half hour south of Marquette) however it took you nearly an hour to get there. Your ground speed is now 90 knots, indicated speed is 140 knots. You have fully functioning de-ice and anti-ice gear on your Caravan including de-ice boots. Your alternate is 45 minutes from Milwaukee in Indiana. You are coming from the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Re: Wahoo pilots quiz time!

No one answered the last. But ok....

Can you teach someone to fly if you don't have a certified flight instructor certificate?

Well, if you hold a BGI/AGI/IGI, you can teach ground school, but actual flying, I think you need that CFI/CFII/MEI.

Sure you can. I don't have a CFI anymore, but I have an ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) certificate with an ATR 42/72 type rating. I can teach ATR first officers for captain training. If you don't have a CFI you can teach someone to fly, you just can't let them solo or you can't sign off anything in their logbook for training.

NOTice to AirMen - Issued through Flight Service to alert pilots to stuff, like bird activity, the dummy who knocked out the localizer, the other dummy who knocked out some runway lights during the last snowfall when trying to plow the white stuff, etc. (all things that have happened at good ol'e Beaver County Airport) ;-)

What are the characteristics and any hazards to flight from a cold front?
