What's the weather like down by you? Are you having an easy winter too? We are only 8 inches above normal. Last year at this time we were 20 inches above normal. No skin off my back. I'm glad we're having an easy winter. I have to travel to Houghton tomorrow and it's supposed to suck. Figures, first day I work in almost 2 months and I have to travel in the white stuff.

If I ever make it down your way we should do lunch. We aint too far from each other. Are you in Sturgeon Bay? I don't mean in the water, I mean in the town of. Silly boy.

Here the weather's been very pleasant as well. Tomorrow (today) is supposed to be windy, but nothing major for snow until later in the week. Most of our snow is gone again; I think we're below normal for snow now (started out near normal though) - I'm not complaining in the least bit about it either.

Ooh, Houghton - that's nasty. My pastor and his wife just got back from a 2- or 3- day stint up there, and supposedly they still have a lot of snow as well.

Lemme know when you swing down this way and lunch is definitely doable. Have you swung this way before, or was it all just flyovers? Either way, there's likely a LOT that's changed since then.

Ok Mr. Smartypants, you have a 6000' thick layer of clouds (2000' overcast, tops at 8000'). It's winter. Where would you encounter the most icing and why? These are stratus clouds. Ground temp is 20 F. Oh you forgot your pitot heat.

Well, you would encounter icing between 2000' and 8000', since the temp on the ground is already below freezing and you need visible moisture to create icing conditions. You lose 2 degrees Celsius/1000', so it's getting colder as you climb.

So, the worst icing you'd get would be around 8000'. Regarding inop pitot heat, that's not such a good idea.

Why would you have the most icing at 8000'?
