Here’s a new regular feature – Member of the Month. Each month, we’ll be putting the spotlight on a community member who’s contributed to the site in some special way. Our first Member of the Month is Greg, aka lufthansa340 .

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Greg and I'm 26. I live in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley with my wife (about an hour and a half North of NYC). I'm a teacher and a football coach. In my spare time I enjoy weightlifting, playing soccer and football, and reading.

How did you get started?

I started collecting when I was in grad. school. I was working on a paper on the history of aviation (which I had always been interested in) and came across Herpa's website. I drove down to the Airplaneshop in New Jersey a few weeks later... and have been hooked ever since.

What do you collect?

I collect what I like. I started primarily collecting 1:500, then moved to 1:400, and then quickly switched to 1:200. I also have a few odd 1:100 models.

How do you display your collection?

I display them in a large cabinet that is from IKEA in my home office. I chose the sturdiest cabinet that I could find to keep my niece and nephew out. I also built a small 1:200 retro terminal and apron that I use to display models from time to time.

How did you find out about W9/DA.C?

I found DA.C first. I was looking for Herpa's new releases and came upon the site. The rest is history... as they say.

How long have you been a member?

I've been a member of DAC since April of 2007 and November of 2007 for Wings900.

What do you get out of W9/DA.C?

I really like the community feel of the two sites. These websites have given me the opportunity to make numerous new friendships with people around the world based on a common interest. I also like working on the teams for DA.C and Wings... giving back to something that I have really benefited from.

Do you have a favorite model/series/mfg or something you just gotta have?

I have a pretty diverse taste when it comes to what I collect. I do like collecting Virgin Atlantic models, anything 1:200 scale, and anything else that catches my eye. There isn't really one particular scale, series, or manufacturer that I prescribe to... I just buy what I want.

What would you like to see in the future?

World peace... and in terms of airplane models... more American retros please. The 70's and 80's are hugely underrepresented in 1:200 scale. New (and improved) moulds are also always welcome. I hope to see this hobby to continue to improve in terms of quality and accuracy.

Alright, thank you very much Greg for the interview and for the effort and time you put into making Wings900 and DA.C a better place for all of us.

See you guys next month with a new Member of the Month.
