 Description
In contrast to the dull gray of numerous variants of the since 1953 manufactured Air Force “Hercs”, the approximately 40 variants of the US Coast Guard-operated HC-130s carry a flamboyant red and white livery. As such, they serve as official sea rescue airplanes (SAR) and helicopter refuellers but they have another function yet. The HC-130s are also used to detect drug-running airplanes and ships. especially from South America. The original of this model is registered as 1790, which is also the year the US Coast Guards’ was founded.

Model Review
Mould & Assembly: First off, it looks like a hercules, there's no mistaking that so good job with that one Herpa!

The hercules in 1:200 by Herpa is the first diecast metal model I've seen that eliminates the nasty wingbox join seam/gap that is characteristic of most diecast metal models. I love how the wings join to the fuselage itself instead of the typical wing+wingbox joined to fuselage deal (if that makes sense).

I have heard complaints about the nose shape before but I just can't grasp what is wrong with it so to that I say that Herpa did a good job.

The model does sit higher than a real hercules would, especially in the rear. On a real hercules, the rear wheels would be more than half covered by the gear doors. Not sure if this has been corrected on the production model.

Realism: Livery is overall good. I just have some nitpicky stuff.

The gray box (a window) just aft of the front door needs to be completely contained within the red fuselage stripe like the real bird.

The 1790 label needs to have more separation for those lower cockpit windows.

Details: One thing I noticed is that there are no antenna. I'm not exactly sure why this was left out as most metal models do have some antenna detail.

The opening rear doors is a nice touch/addition.

I think the printing of the cockpit windows can have less space in between each other. Also on the real plane, a profile shot shows that the windows lean backwards.

Even with the faults, I'd still buy it as no one else out there makes a hercules at this pricepoint!
