 Description
The Israeli airforce always possessed the most modern aircraft and it should come as no surprise that the IDAF still today operates some of the world’s best interceptors in the form of the F-16 “Fighting Falcon” developed by General Dynamics. Taken over from Lockheed, this ingenious design was modified for Israel into the F-16i “Suva” (thunderstorm) in 2003, with more importance attached to range. The combat radius of the “Suva” extends 1,500 kilometers fully armed. Two models with open or closed cockpit cover and different tail design are now released in the 1/200 scale. The model with the open cockpit carries the registration 253 and is limited to 1,500 items. The one with the closed cockpit and the registration 421 is not limited.

Model Review
Mould & Assembly: I am a big fan of what Herpa is doing with their 1:200 military line. Given the size of these models and the limited amount of space to work with it is amazing that they were able to include so many details into the mould.

These planes are part plastic and part metal. The main fuselage for example is all metal where other items such as the cockpit windows are plastic. I believe the engine inlet may be made of plastic too and joined to the metal.

Fit and finish is above par. Some may complain about the visible join lines but those things do not bother me at all. Some may also complain about deep panel lines but again that does not bother me at all (it's not like Herpa's F-22). The only major concern I notice are the seam lines that join two halves of items such as the external fuel tanks and missiles and also that the engine nozzle does not fit flush with the body, instead "hangs" off the rear (why coudln't they have made it one piece with the fuselage?).

Bottom line is it represents what a F-16 should be, well. I can tell off the bat that it's an F-16.

Realism: I would say this model does the job well representing the real fighter. Some items to take note are plain white discs for the wheel hubs and thick pitot tube and various antenna on the tail. If you can forgive those items then I say for something this small Herpa gets a double thumbs up from me. Herpa even got the aggressive, semi-nose down stance of the F-16 in there.
Details: Again as stated earlier, it is amazing how many details Herpa can incorporate into such a small piece. The missiles are there, the various panel lines are defined, the printing is excellent and sharp, etc.

Pluses
  Excellent printing of details
great inclusion of details for such a small piece

Minuses
  Seam lines on armament
engine nozzle seems to have been an afterthought just hanging off the rear

I give this model a very high score due to Herpa's ability to incorporate so many little details onto an already tiny mould. Every model will have their drawbacks and inconsistencies but for this mould its neglectable. Herpa you did a good job, keep it up. But if you are able to do any "improvement" that would be going above and way way way beyond the call of duty!
