 Description
Also because its old logo was associated too closely with meager post-communist service, the Czech CSA renewed its livery last year. The new design aims to do justice to the developments in customer orientation which the airline has carried out over the past years. Bit by bit, all airplanes in the fleet will be repainted at their scheduled D-checks. The Airbus A320 with the registration OK-GEA and the name “Roznow pod Radhostern” has already made that transition and is now released by Herpa in the new look in the 1/500 scale.

Model Review
Mould and Assembly: As many of you know, herpa has recently tweaked their A320 family of moulds, creating the NGIII. The A320 family is in my opinion one of the hardest aircraft to model - I have yet to see one that very accurately represents the A320. Overall, this is a decent mould that represents the A320. However, there are several things that could make this an excellent mould. The nose is probably the place that could use the most work. It definately looks the part, but after looking at it for a while, it seems a bit funny. The tip of the nose is just a bit too fat - it should taper a bit more, and have a slightly skinnier, sleeker nose. Additionally, the cockpit windows could do a bit of reworking, as they are printed at an off angle - they shouldn't be angled so much towards the nose. Finally, the crown above the cockpit window, connecting the nose to the fusalage, shouldn't be as extreme. It should be a gradual curve ending about at the end of the first door. If herpa fixed those two things, they would have an almost perfect A320. That is, except for the tail. It should be a tiny bit fatter at the top. Otherwise, the mould is pretty good. Wing fences are accurate, seam is acceptable. Perhaps in the future herpa could altogether eliminate this - it's gone in the ERJ-190, a smaller model, so why can't it be gone here? Engines are acceptable - they represent the CFM engines, but could use a bit more work. The cowlings are fattest in the middle on the real engine. Here, it is pretty level throughout. It needs more curvature, especially on the bottom. Overall, it is pretty good. One thing I would like to ask herpa for in the future are the radar domes on top of the model. It would take maybe a drip of metal, similar to those on some gemini models.

Livery: The new livery of CSA is very simple, and herpa portrayed it very accurately. All markings are spot on, from the tail livery to the fusalage. No major comments here, except, well done, herpa.

Details: This is one of the "above average" herpa models in terms of details. There's the standard, including window frames, registration, and darkened engine interiors. But there's also the bonus "www.czechairlines.com" and the tiny marking (circular) about four windows in front of the equally small "airbus A320", and the two flags, one of the czech republic and one of the EU. There's also the registration on the wings. However, this isn't extremely detailed. For example, there are no engine markings, no registration on nose gear doors, no "cut out here markings". Hopefully herpa could add those in the future.

I like how well herpa did the livery. I like the above average details. I only wish some company would make a better a320 mould. No company in any scale has a mass produced accurate version of the a320 (including gemini 1:200 - theirs is too fat and doesn't taper enough to the nose)
