 Description
Herpa states: In February of 1956, Continental Airlines of Houston, Texas became launching carrier of the top model of the General Dynamics “Convair Liner”-family. It was called CV-440 “Metropolitan” and was together with the Douglas DC-6B, which was equipped with the same engines, probably the world’s best airliner powered by piston engines. At Continental, more than 20 CV-440s were operated for 10 years, as was the original of this metal model, manufactured in 1956 and registered N90862. Isn't this nice, a Convair CV-440 in 1:400!

Model Review
Mould and Assembly: I really like this all-metal mould. the first think that strikes you is - wow - this is a cool model. the overall shape of the model is good. The nose section is correct and the gear is correctly positioned. The wings are really nice with sharp details and the polished metal look. The wing root is formed and the gap is visible albeit acceptable.

Moving back towards the tail, the vertical stabilizer is also correct and the assembly of the horizontal stabilizers - close to being a slot-type construction however leave some visible gaps.

The engines are really nice but the construction also leaves some serious gaps - that do line up with the real engine - but are a little but too wide for my tastes; the props are nicely done and boy do the look fragile. they spin freely and that is really nice. the only thing that confused me a bit was the engine itself - the pictures of the continental on a.net do not show the same engine (the air ducts are different). Be that as it may, I will accept this minor deviation fro the pictures. The engine colors are different - a nice touch but they do not line up correctly on the gear doors.

The antennas are really nice although they are too thick and almost crude looking. They are however required for a model of this size so I think they did well.

Livery: Looking at the livery, it is really nicely done with no complaints here. the colors are fantastic, the details correct and the position on the fuselage also correctly done.

Details: The details on this model are a little deceiving for a model of this size. But we do get a nice level of details with things like the cockpit windows curved and shaped like the real thing (instead of a simple flat print) and we do get the wipers! The wing and stabilizer details are nice and sharp. the gear and engines are also nicely done.

If there was one thing to say about this model, the polished metal finish does tend to discolor a bit.

A really nice bird from another century. If you are into prop liners or Continental, this one will make a nice centerpiece of any display. Although prone to a little discoloration, this model is really a nice reproduction of a classic airliner in classic colors from a classic era.

...only some self-made "darkening" of intakes under props, exhaust and landing gear shaft is necessary :(
