Wings900 - Herpa Wings British Airways Concorde 1:400

From Herpa: In a joint venture British Airways and the Texan Braniff had been flying services between Dallas and London via Washington with a Concorde, registered G-BOAE. Since the Concorde was only allowed to fly subsonic speed over the USA, this experiment was already stopped again in May of 1980. The airplane is released in the 1/400 scale with the old British Airways livery. This aircraft is now preserved in Barbados. This will be my first 1:400 Concorde review and this should be some fun!

Model Review

Mould and Assembly: The mould is sharp - and not because it is crisp and accurate, but rather it is because of the nose.

As far as the assembly goes, this mould is just fine. The vertical stabilizer could be fitted a little bit better - the gap is a little bit too obvious for a 1:400 scale model.

The nose is fine (albeit sharp) and the fuselage and wing look good too. There is not much to be said about this mould except, where are the little canard winglets? I'm sorry, but a 1:400 scale model needs to have them.

The only this is that the tail slopes down a bit when tapering to the point. It should be flat and remain horizontal with the top of the fuselage.

Livery: A eurowhite livery... so what is there to say? The livery looks good and is correctly positioned on the fuselage. The colors are correct.

Nothing else to say here besides the tail section - the part with the crown should have a wider white section between it and the leading edge and it should also remain parallel with the leading edge.

Details: With the canard winglets missing, I think Herpa really was not paying attention to details when they released this model. Although the level of details may be good enough for 1:500 scale concords, the 1:400 scale not only is a larger scale, the expectations for more detail are also much greater.

The missing canards, the lack of the droopy nose section lines, no strobe light at the end of the tail are all missing. The gears, the doors and the engines are nicely done. But still, the lack of some details give one the impression that this is a large version of a 1:500 mould.

Even though the mould has a lot of details, there were not enough to make this plane a great model. The missing canards are a major minus and the strobe light on the tail would also be nice.

Otherwise it is a pretty decent model with a livery well done and other details as required. As a 1:500 scale model, it would be nice. But it falls short for a 1:400 Concorde.
