Description

With this release of Iceland's flag carrier, we have another 757 with winglets. 19 Boeing 757-200s belong to the ultra-modern fleet of the Icelandic airline. Recently they have been equipped with winglets. The original of this model, registered TF-FIO is a 757-208T which was purchased new in 1999 and named “Valdis”. It is operated in scheduled services to Europe as well as to North America.

| | Mould and Assembly: This is an excellent; I may go as far as saying one of the very best of herpa's range. The nose is almost flawless - if I had to point out something, I would say the nose cone could be a tad bit more pointy. Also, the lower portion should be a bit skinnier. However, that is overshadowed by the flawless cockpit windows that are printed spot-on. the nose landing gear is adequate, although it does not really accurately represent the true 757 landing gear. The details on it are exaggerated; the little bumps and the triangle aren't nearly as big as they are portrayed. Wings are flawless, with winglets the perfect shape. They're very skinny too, which is an accomplishment for the metal winglets. I only have a few complaints: The engines are too small. The leading edge of the engine (the mouth) should be a greater diameter. It would also help to make it a millimeter or two longer. It's also the Rolls Royce engine. Although the panel lines are appreciated, they're a bit too deep. It would overall be better to have a smooth, larger engine. Also, the vertical and horizantal stabilizers are plastic, which leads to a tiny bit of transluscency. Overall, I have to say this is a very nice mould.
Livery: Nice representation of the livery. Only thing is, the yellow band right above the blue portion of the fusalage is too thin - should be a bit thicker. There's a bit of paint overlap around the bottom, but that is barely noticable. All other things are accurate, printed correctly.
Details: This may be my only "major" complaint with this model - it doesn't have enough details. There's the standard window frames, lighter landing gear, and darkened engine intake. there's also the aircraft name, valdis, printed along the nose. There is minimal door imprinting. Overall, although there is the standard, I would ask herpa to add a little more detail, for example, some lights on top.
