 Description
Finnair Plc (Finnair Oyj) is Finland's largest airline and flag carrier, with its headquarters on the grounds of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Vantaa, Finland, and its main hub at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Finnair and its subsidiary companies dominate both the domestic and international air travel markets in Finland. The largest owner is the Government of Finland with 55.8% of the shares. Finnair is a member of the Oneworld alliance. In 2006, the airline transported 8.8 million passengers, on a network of 15 domestic and 55 international destinations. In addition there are about 50 seasonal charter-flight destinations.[citation needed] Skytrax ranks Finnair as a 4 star airline. Finnair goes retro to celebrate 85 years of flying Finnair, one of the oldest operating airlines in the world, is celebrating 85 years of operations by painting one of its Airbus A319 in the livery of a Convair aircraft, which Finnair flew under its original name Aero in the 1950s. The retro aircraft will begin flights at the end of July and the aircraft's crew is also dressed in the spirit of the times in 1950s uniforms. "With this special aircraft we want to pay respect to Finnair's long experience in flying. Even though our sights are set on the future as we build Finnair into the airline of choice in air travel in the Northern Hemisphere, it is also a good idea to look back and remember our distinguished history," says Finnair SVP Commercial Division Mika Perho. The surface of the aircraft will be shining metal colour, its sides will have blue stripes and the text Finnish Airlines. The retro theme is also visible inside the aircraft both in the in-flight service and entertainment. The A319 will retain its retro livery for several years to come as an unscheduled painting of the aircraft would unnecessarily burden the environment. The retro aircraft will operate normal scheduled domestic and European routes, but it will also fly some special flights. For instance, Finnair's Helsinki-Amsterdam route celebrates 60 years of service this year. Finnairgroup.com

Model Review
Mould and Assembly: It is common knowledge that Herpa has some problems with the A320 family mould. Even as the A319 is not as bad as the A320 it is still far from good. But that said, this mould is starting to improve. Much thanks to better details on the gears and wings. So I will give it a OK. Much improvements since the IV mould.

Livery: The classic Finnair livery is very nice, in real life. But on a model the silver metallic colour does not look correct as the metallic “dots” are to big and that is a shame as it is pretty nice printed. Print it GRAY, that is more realistic I think. Nice otherwise.

Details: When it comes to the details, this model is excellent. The wingtips are correctly scaled and colored, the wings have the right colour and details. All the (cargo)doors and lettering seems to be in place, as is the nose wheel. Only the cockpit windows could be better or at least darker.

The metallic silver is the thing that let this model down. It is better to paint it gray, it is more realistic.
