 Description
With its so-called “Paradise Colors”, which decorate almost all aircraft in the Bangkok Air fleet, Thailand’s first private airline actively promotes the destinations it serves. Based in the new Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok airways flies to twenty destinations with it's fleet of 717's, ATR's, A320's, and A319's. So the third and latest A320-200, registered HS-PGW, carries the name Samui. Its livery illustrates the beauties of its namesake island, Ko Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand.

Model Review
Mould and Assembly: As many of you know, herpa has recently tweaked their A320 family of moulds, creating the NGIII. Overall, this is a great mould that accurately represents the A320. However, there are several things that could make this an excellent mould. The nose is pretty good in general. It definately looks the part, but after looking at it for a while, it seems a bit funny. The tip of the nose is just a bit too fat - it should taper a bit more, and have a slightly skinnier, sleeker nose. Additionally, the cockpit windows could do a bit of reworking, as they are printed at an off angle - they shouldn't be angled so much towards the nose. Finally, the "knuckle" above the cockpit window, connecting the nose to the fusalage, shouldn't be as extreme. It should be a gradual curve ending about at the end of the first door. If herpa fixed those two things, they would have an almost perfect A320. that is, except for the tail. It should be a tiny bit fatter at the top. Otherwise, the mould is pretty good. Wing fences are accurate, seam is acceptable. Engines could be a little bit bigger though. Landing gear is acceptable.

Livery: Well to start, this is a beautiful livery. Colors match the real plane. Printing is for the most part spot-on. Just a few things I notice. The whale in front of the wing should be darker - it should be more of an indigo, and there should be a significant difference between that and the wave color. The orange fish in front of the rear doors should be a deeper orange color. Other things include the umbrellas below the first door, they should be about a millimeter lower (but that's being a little picky). The last thing is that the waves should extend on top of the nose more - they should be a bit fatter and extend closer towards the cockpit windows.

Details: This is a pretty typical model, not much of the extra stuff. There's the new herpa standards, with the silver window frames, tinted engines, and light landing gear. There's an APU, too. I'd have to say the livery has plenty of details itself, which are all represented accurately. There's also the fineprinted www.bangkokair.com and the thai flag on the tail, along with the name "Samui" on the nose. There are the cargo doors on the starboard side. Overall it has a decent amount of details.

Pluses

First things first: Beautiful livery. Very good representation. A320 mould has been something herpa's been working on. They're getting there, just not there yet. A few things to change, and we'll have a great A320 mould. But still, the mould is overshadowed by the great Bangkok airways "Samui" livery
