Description

Currently, four Boeing 777-200ER constitute the fleet’s flagships, all still purchased under Lauda Air’s. Among them also the original of aircraft, registered OE-LPA and named "Melbourne". Austrian Airlines is currently thoroughly thinning out its long-haul fleet due to economic reasons shedding its long haul Airbus aircraft with only Boeing 767 and 777 remaining within the fleet.

| | Mould and Assembly: It's been awhile since I've written a review but here are the first of about another ten that will soon be up and posted. Once again here is another on Herpa's very well done Boeing 777-200 mould. Starting with the nose of the model it is very well done and one additional item of notice in this area is the cockpit windows are now a very dark grey color and look and are placed great. Pretty much perfection! The remainder of the fuselage is also very well done as are the stabalizers. The stabalizers are also once again very well done with them being painted in red so there is no light passing through the vertical stabalizers. The wings are well moulded and connected nicely to the wings. The engines are connected snugly to the pylons which are designed well as metal pylons can be. The gears are well moulded, and the only improvement would be the size of the nose gear doors which are just slightly on the small side. Overall the mould is very well done and put together which has been the case for years now. Kudos to Herpa!
Livery: Austrian Airlines revised their livery a few years ago now and it still stands well against the never ending changes of liveries in the aviation world. The most noticeable feature is the light blue under belly which really brigns some life to the livery which if you notice doesn't quite match the blue of the engines which I believe is more correct then the more pastel blue of the belly of the aircraft. The Austrian titles are correctly placed and the oversized Austrian logo on the fuselage are of the correct shape and is correctly placed on the fuselage. The white area on the tail is just slightly off compared to the actual aircraft however this is not a deal breaker and one should be happy that it is painted on instead of the old see through white moulded plastic!
Details: The first thing that you notice on the model is the cockpit windows are very well done. The cockpit window color and shape is very very well done, in addition it is placed perfectly on the fuselage so it really adds to the model. The model carries the basic amount of details which is slightly dissapointing as some of the extreme detailed models really win a person over. The model has the standard APU Exhaust and what looks to be some additional door details. There is some details that could have been added like the two tone engine exhaust which would really help the overall appearance of the model. In addition, some small details such as nose gear registrations would be a nice touch.
