Herpa released this MD11 in 2009 as the Sixth Club Model of 2009, which is exclusive For Herpa Wings Club Members. After Varigs "fall", TAM has grown fast, buying several long-haul planes like the A330, A340-500, B777-300 or this example, an MD11. Mostly used on european routes.

Model Review
| | Mould and Assembly: Well well, I would expect much more from a Club Model, (please don't misunderstand: also from a "normal" release). The DC10/MD11 mould was - ans still is - a weak point in Herpa's range of releases and that's a shame. Not only the fact, that Herpa hasn't released many MD11s in the past, the concurrence has a far better moulds to offer. Again, this should be a second, updated NGII mould. But honestly: what has been done? Some smalle improvements were made the the rear part and the front, but that's very inefficient. Wings, engines and exhausts (especially the rear one) are made in a very simple way. The best was to describe the problem is this: the mould is too rough and harsh.
Livery: As always: colors, shapes, placings are fine. It isn't really the livery that makes us problems! But TAM has a simple livery for reproduction.
Details: Some things to mention here. The cockpit windows are somehow missplaced. That gives an unprofessional feeling to the collectors. Maybe it can be corrected by a full reworking of the whole front. The rear exhaust is toyish, not really like it looks like. Nothing on the wings, the engines are too simple and the whole bottom of the model is rough and by far not that quality that we can expect (from Herpa, from a MD11 mould, from a ClubModel, ...)
