Herpa Southwest Airlines Boeing B 737-7H4WL 1:500
Introduction | | The now fourth largest airline of the USA now includes Washington’s city airport “Reagan National” in its schedule and flies deep into the neighboring state of Maryland. Once again a reason to splash out with a new livery. The N124WN, delivered in 2005, received the bold livery called “Maryland One”, based on Maryland’s state flag. | The Model | | | We'll be doing this review in reverse process compared to the previous review. As you can see here the vertical stabalizer is well moulded with the silve leading edge correctlyu printed. The Southwest titles do not have the slight paint distortion that occured on my 1:400 example. The stabalizers are made of plastic however the orange and red stripes are painted on the tail which prevents any light travelling through the tail. The flag is better represented on such a small model then it was compared to the 1:400 example. | | | As stated in many previous reviews the Herpa 737 series line of moulds is seriously lacking behing the rest of the moulds in terms of accuracy and quality. The nose gear as stated in previous reviews is much too far back which throws off the whole nose apperace of the model. The nose itself is poorly shaped however the cockpit windows have been improved and now have the true look of the Boeing cockpit windows even though this area of the model is weak compared to the actual aircraft. | | | As stated in the previous reivew this is a very unique livery and this is one area that Herpa excels at. The printing of the model is very well done and lines up accurately with the window line, which is diffuclt considering the inaccuracies of the mould. The printing does not overlap one another to cause color bleed and is well representd ont he fuselage. The cargo doors are printed also in the correct position in refernece to the printing of the fuselage design. | | | Unlike the 1:400 model this model is lacking the details that were on the 1:400 model these include the extra details that were printed on the engine cowling. This model also lacks two tone exhaust that has been seen on some of the latest Herpa models. Also the detailing of the colored main gear hubs is not presented on this smaller model. The interior of hte enignes however are printed in the new titanium color which is a nice feature that gives the model a more realistic apperance. | | | The wings are a bit on the thick side as the 1:400 wings are just as thin if not thinner then its 1:500 counterpart. The winglets are also a bit on the thick side but not to noticeable for such a small model. As you can see the rear of the fuselage still suffers from being much too "fat" in apperance and needs to be thinned out to better proportions. This model is also missing additional details such as the APU exaust which is present on the 1:400 counterpart. | |
