Herpa Southwest Airlines Boeing B 737-7H4WL 1:400
Introduction | | With over 500 airplanes in the –300, -500 and –700 series, Southwest Airlines is by far the biggest operator of the Boeing 737. The “uniform fleet” gives the advantage of cost savings, because aircraft maintenance and staff training can be tremendously reduced. Nonetheless, boredom never sets in looking at the fleet, as many planes carry special liveries. Just like “Maryland One” with the registration N214WN, which is available in the 1/500 scale as well as in the 1/400 scale. | The Model | | | Herpa has introduced all metal seamless models in its 1:400 scale and this included a complete revision of its NG 737 line of models to include metal wings. I consider this mould to be very well done and is much better then the Dragon Wings mould and depending on the person as good as the Gemini Jets mould. The fuselage might be just slightly too thick compared to the other manufactures but this is not a distract for me as it is for some other people. | | | As you can see here with this special livery comes the checkboard scheme on both sides of the model. Our photographer does have s hort right foot but rest assured everything on this model is straight down the lenght of the fuselage. The cockpit winodws are well placed and have the true shape of the 737 windows. This aircraft comes without the eyebrow windows which is true the actual aircraft. The gears sit relatively straight and are in the correct position. | | | The window line is printed in the correct position and is outlined clearly in the silver frames which is a ncie contrast against the darker background. The rear door in my opinion sits just slightly too low and could be just slightly raised which would hel balane the look of the model out. The nose gear door is printed in the correct position as you can see and has plenty of details on the door which include the red stripe and tail number printed on the nose gear door. | | | The wings are extremely thin and are very well moulded. The emergency exit on teh wings correctly lines up with the exit door over the wing. The wings are printed in teh correct color and are true to the acutal aircraft. The winglets are extremely thin and are moulded very well into the wing probabaly some of the best 737 winglets out there. the engines are nicely moulded and fit snugly into the pylon. The exaust however is missing the two tone exaust which would be a ncie little feature however the engine cowlings have plenty of details to make up for it. As you can see the hubs of the main gear are correctly painted in the alternate color. | | | As you can see here the rear of the model is well done. The silver leading edge is well done and not too thick. There is no color bleading on teh tail of the aircraft. There is some slight distortion near the T and H on the Southwest titles however this is very minimal. The flag is not as clear as it could be on a 1:400 model and seems to be a bit of poor quality. The APU exaust is clearly printed on the rear of the fuselage while the yellow and black checkboard on the fuselage are true tothea ctual aircraft and have no distortion between the two colors. | |
